Q: Are there any issues with temp readings on reflective material? Such as a reading off the chrome exhaust of a motorcycle?

You should be able to adjust the emissivity setting to that of chrome (oxidized chrome ~= 0.60-0.85). You'll likely need to calibrate the emissivity for the exact surface condition by adjusting the emissivity until the measurement is equal to the known temp (let your m/c sit in the shade for a while so that the exhaust equalizes to the outside ambient temp). Now you can warm it up and get more accurate values.

Q: Can I use it check the Temp in the pool and how close do I need to be to the water?

Yes and it should be accurate at 3 to 4 feet.

If your screen display is on and nothing covering laser opening (battery installed correctly), press trigger and no reading, i would say bad.

Q: What case does amazon sell that fits this? it's huge. the case i bought was too small.

I kept mine in the original box since it has pre molded casing. Then I wrap the box with clear tape to hold together And longer.
