A Masterful Howl of Rage
This, as one would expect from a poetry book once the subject of a long court trial on it's possible obscenity, is a pocket book full of anger very well expressed. Howl is a roar of rage against the culture of drug taking which 'destroyed the best minds' of Ginsberg's generation. Ginsberg watched his friends descend into madness, starving ,dragging themselves through the streets at dawn, ever in search of the next fix. Ginsberg's pain and impotent rage burns through every page of this little book, first published in 1956 - and yet still so relevant in these times. A masterpiece.

does what it says on the label
A compact and economical selection of Ginsberg's poems, including the title poem Howl. For Ginsberg fans, nothing to say.For those who are too young to have lived the 'Beat Generation' but were made curious by the film Howl (directed by Friedman & Epstein), as I was, a fantastic opportunity to dig deeper ..... I saw the film, bought the book and read all the poems, went back and saw the film a second time (having bought the dvd - it is a film which only improves on watching a second time....)The sort of book for wandering round parks and reading aloud.... or reading slowly and fantasising.... just listening to the rhythm of the words....Love it or hate it - interesting in any case

It was good in the 1960s and is just as good now, in its cheaper paperback format.
