Traction Man Is Here Paperback – Import, January 1, 2006

I love this story about a boy's imaginary adventures with his action figure. Having given our original copy to my children's first grade teacher years ago, I've now bought a new copy to share with my grandchildren.

What can I say besides the fact that Traction Man is Here is one of our all-time favorites. Packed with low-key British humor, the book is a riot. We see new things every time we read it. The book revels in the way children get completely absorbed in imaginative play.

I only buy books for my grandchildren after I have read them. I got this book from the library and just loved it. It is very British culturally, so my husband (who is British) loved it. My friends loved it and discussed it as if it was an adult book club selection. My daughters distinctly remember homemade gifts that weren't exactly right, and thought the depiction here was hilarious (and the recipient very gracious). Finally bought all three Traction Man books for my five-year-old grandson (by now there was a waiting list for the library copies). He is allowed to bring only favorite books for school show-and-tell. All three went to school with him the next day!

and hooray for Mini Grey, who gives us this fabulous romp through a vividly imagined world. From the Evil Pillows to the Cupcake in the Clutches of Doctor Sock, everything is fodder for Traction Man's daring deeds. Traction Man is hilarious and engaging, and has charmed all three of my kids. I've read it hundreds of times now (why, yes, I do have a toddler, why do you ask?) and I still can't read it with a straight face. Terrific, fabulous book.

Traction Man is a super cool hero in his own private kingdom, rescuing other characters, exploring the wilds of the compost pile. Occasionally he has to put up with interference from the clueless adults, but most of the time he enjoys his independence. With beautifully detailed quirky illustrations, this book will capture the imagination of kids and inspire them to invent special missions for their own toys.

Although my boys didn't get the underlying GI Joe nature of a "Traction Man" toy, they enjoyed the adventure and imagination the boy in this story had with his toy. Great book and lots of laughs with the story line. The pictures are interesting and we seem to find new things in the backgrounds to giggle about every time we read it.

My children really enjoy these books and they have become a frequent gift to any kids who like superheroes. They are witty, creative, and have excellent vocabulary. The humor is appropriate for young children but adults will really appreciate it especially, it is a nice break from reading underdeveloped and more commercial hero stories.
