Good Quality Well Thought Out Design
I chose this set over other competitors for a number of reasons:1. The clever integration of the ratcheting handle that works with both taps and dies. This system is superior to the often cheap, flimsy handles supplied with other sets. The tap and die handles with this set have a substantial feel and are good quality.2. The hexagonal die bodies. Many die sets have round body dies. These are difficult to grip and often slip in the handle when cutting threads.3. This set includes both tapered taps and plug taps. Many competitive sets skimp on the tapered taps and generally supply plug taps in an attempt to cover more sizes at lower cost. Plug taps are often difficult to start when threading hard materials causing the threads to start crooked or cause damage to the hole being threaded. Taper taps cut more gradually and are easier to start as well keep aligned with the hole.4. This set appears to be identical in contents and quality to its competitor but without the brand recognition and premium price. My hunch is that both are manufactured in the same plant.5. Overall, I’m quite pleased with this set so far.I’d like to add a #6 to my list of advantages this set has over others. I recognized this while using a friend’s cheap set of taps: While attempting to thread a hole in limited space, the tap handle kept hitting an obstacle. I’d have to loosen the handle and rotate it 90’ so I could continue rotating the tap. The ratcheting tap handle would’ve avoided this problem. So, here goes…6. The ratcheting handle can be used in tight spaces where conventional fixed handles might be awkward.

An excellent tap and die set for the tinkerer, maker or aspiring mechanic
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of this set. A lot of thought went into its design and it shows. The ratchet handle is a very nice design. The handles extend for more leverage when using larger taps and dies. I also like the way the hex dies and adapters are retained in the handle: there is a threaded steel cover that screws on like a jar lid, preventing the dies and adapters from falling out. And since it is a hexagonal holder, there is no need for set screws. You receive two chucks for the taps, one small and one large. Either one can be used with the ratchet (via the adapter) or with the included T handle. An adapter is provided to adapt the 3/8 square drive on the chucks to the native 1" hex holder on the ratchet. Whether you use the T handle or one of the chucks will depend on the size tap you use and how much leverage you think you need. Also note that there are four larger taps (12mm coarse, 12mm fine, 1/2" coarse, 1/2" fine ) that are intended to be used with the 7mm square drive adapter rather than a chuck (it took me a while to figure that one out). The whole thing is just a very nice design. There is one component in this kit that I have not found an obvious use for: a small slotted type screwdriver. In a tap and die set with set screws, a small screwdriver could potentially be used to tighten/loosen those screws, but that is not the case here, since I could find no screws. Perhaps it is intended for prying? A holdover from a diferent set? Shrug. There are no drill bits included for the taps, and I am OK with that – I have plenty of drill bits. The case is blow-molded. Hinges and latches are mechanical rather than creased plastic (this is good). The taps are in tip-out holders that can be removed for packout purposes but are otherwise held securely. The Dies, however, sit loose in hexagonal depressions. As a result, when the case is being carried or stored vertically, the dies are at some risk of not staying in these depressions. Save the foam that holds this stuff in place during shipping; you will need it.As for the performance of the actual taps and dies, I haven't had an opportunity to cut new threads, but I did repair some threads on a few bolts and also on a badly damaged section on my lawn mower's front deck suspension rod, and in both use cases the results were excellent.Quite happy with this kit.

Stay Away From This Product
Received this item quickly, used it one time and the ratchet handle lasted less than 2 minutes. It literally fell apart in pieces in my hand simply cleaning threads on a bolt. Big time fail! Expected way more for money spent!

Very nicely organized set.
I really like this set. It’s very well organized and see to have everything the average person would need.I’ve used it a couple of times now. I’ve always had random bits that I had to search for in a bin. This is very nice to have everything laid out and organized.
