Great book, underestimated for sure!
After hearing how bad this book was, I am pleasantly surprised to tell you how brilliant it is, great characters, exciting build ups, graphic violence, gripping story, and the story is a classic race against time, good guys vs evil villain kind of lay out, yes it seems generic, but it plays out very well. The only bad point I can muster, is how some scenes drag on, book space that could of been used to bolster the final chapters, which I felt were way to short in retrospect of the overall book, but its a tiny fault.I think all book are needed to be read, if you want the whole picture of the horus heresy, which in turn has grounded the 40k universe, to what it is today, and this book, for all its bad rep, is a pivotal inclusion to the series! In my opinion anyway.

Worth the read
A Thousand Son Psyker and a bunch of World Eaters foiling the plans of the Word Bearers. Who would have thunk it?

Battle for the Abyss
The Horus Heresy series continues to blow me away with their books. Battle for the Abyss is the 8th book in the series and follows a group of loyal space marines and imperial soldiers who are attempting to intercept a traitor vessel of gigantic size. The author does a great job of describing the different legions who make up the loyal task force. We learn some more backstory of these legions and of any hostiles they have towards each other. I found the discussions on the use of sorcery most interesting. Like always we get good characters, interesting stories and battles between vessels in space and infantry on the ground, references to other legions and events in the Horus Heresy series. Overall another great entry in the series.

Good. Extended
It is simple good. It has a variety of different combat styles and scenarios. A story which gives a dilemma and shows the way of different legions. There is a indication of passing time which I felt added to the situation. The novel concentrates in a very narrow area but still lets you know other things are happening which gave me the urge to read other novels to find out.

an exciting star navy romp
Best book in the series for a while. Self contained but fun, energetic and poetic. A real page turner! Must read

Great read
Nice addition to the Horus heresy series but not essential.

Exciting space opera
I went into this one not expecting much, as the reviews I'd read told me this was the worst in the series.Actually this has turned out to be one of my favourites in the series so far, even though it is written in a very pulp style with a very cliche but cruel villain (Zadkiel of the Word Bearers legion) it's got brilliant pacing, lots of action (warp demons, spaceship battles, gore, etc) and it keeps you turning the pages.I like Mhotep's character too, looking foward to reading more about the Thousand Sons!

Ben Counter does it again.
I'm a fan of Ben's work so was excited to see he had written this next installment.Loved the action from start to finish, the writing style puts you in the heart of the story and creates a book I just couldn't put down for long.
