Most pre-teens may not have the general knowledge needed to answer many of the questions. The game is more adult, not that it has inappropriate questions. It would certainly be very educational for a pre-teen but they may fall behind the other players initially.

Definitely suited for team play. The questions can be quite challenging, so collaboration is helpful.

Q: We have 12 people at game night. Would we split up into two teams to play?

The box says it is for 2 to 6 players / teams. There are no other instructions inside that address that question. So I would assume that if you have 2 teams of 6 = 12 players.

Q: how fun is this for 3 people?

While its better for 4 or more I believe it can be played by 3 people. Its a good game but it is quite challenging.
