Q: I got this as a gift and have not been able to get it to work! I have had several people tell me they also couldn't get it to work. What to do?

Mine worked after a few attempts. Put a small wad of the char cloth in the tip of the rod. Put the tip in the hole "just the tip" LOL sorry ...the important part, put the base on something solid while holding it firmly and give it a firm bonk with the palm of your other hand. Pull out out quickly and blow on the cherry.
