You don't have to rest your hand on your chest but you do have to keep your hand still, just sit down in your favourite chair relax ,keep your hand still until it gives you the reading which takes less than 20 seconds. Hope this helps.

HI There, the NHS is not a certification body and therefore doesn’t approve or disapprove devices. As a result there are no oximeters “approved” by the NHS. The OxiPro oximeter has been supplied to NHS Trusts for home oximetry of patients (out patient monitoring), but it does not imply NHS approval. Product Certifications (approvals) are solely undertaken by Notified Bodies, in the case of this product it has been tested and certified by TUV SUD GmbH, Germany, to the relevant CE Medical Device Directive Standards and BS-EN-ISO-80601-2-61, “Particular requirements for basic safety and essential performance of pulse oximeter equipment”.
