It comes with a punch that you use to press the plain sandpaper into to make the correct set of holes.

Q: What size length x width sandpaper does this sander use?

I buy full sheets of sandpaper then cut them up myself. Get 4 per sheet. I use Festool Granat 9 x 11 paper.

Q: What is the purpose of the extra metal plate?

If you asking about the plate with the raised pegs it's to perforate your sandpaper so the dust collector will work properly.

Q: Can these be used to sand the top of a closet door without removing the door?

Typically yes, but only if there is enough room above the open door.
