I am not sure. My hair was falling out due to health issues and medications. The hairs were also not getting as long as they used too. I have waist length hair. Since using this I have had new hair growth (tons of it) and my hair is growing to it's full length again. In another year you won't be able to tell that I ever had troubles with my hair. I also believe that it helps with overall scalp health. My scalp is in better condition than before I stared it. I was getting dry areas. It did take 2-3 months before the changes were obvious though. I hope this helps.
