Hello, C. As I recall, everything you need is included. You will have to connect it to your battery bank, mount the shunt nearby and run the included wire from there to the monitor itself. There is probably a .pdf on the Victron website that has everything you will need to know. It's a very well made device and worth the higher price. Best wishes!

Q: My house batteries are up under my E-350 van, and are therefore exposed to the elements while driving along. OK for the shunt to be down there, too?

There is a RJ-45 connection that is not intended to get wet, so having it in an unprotected location is probably not a good idea, especially if road salt could get to it. If you can bring the battery negative cable into the van, that would be much better, or else use a weatherproof junction box.

After the two batteries are connected together, the negative from one of them goes to the shunt, and nothing else. The other side of the shunt goes to the negative bus bar, chassis ground, etc. It's important that no loads or charging devices connect directly to the battery negative, otherwise the flow will not be monitored by the shunt.

The monitor will show current state of charge of the batteries. You can then scroll to the current inbound or outbound power in amps. The number will be plus showing net power from the panels minus current load. I hope that helps.
