Fat Loss, Androgen Receptor Upregulation AND Recovery Aid
If you’re a serious lifter, and not some weekend gym warrior, L-Carnitine is for you. If you’re the latter, skip this nutraceutical and get some whey protein. Sorry, but bluntness is required for a nutraceutical that is required but is under constant scrutiny. This review won’t be biased; however, I have nothing but good things to say for it. Sure, it COULD be cheaper, but that can be applied to everything and anything.Studies:The effects of L-carnitine L-tartrate supplementation on hormonal responses to resistance exercise and recovery.[...]Dose: 2 grams“These data support the use of LCLT as a recovery supplement for hypoxic exercise and lend further insights into the hormonal mechanisms that may help to mediate quicker recovery.”Effects of L-carnitine L-tartrate supplementation on muscle oxygenation responses to resistance exercise.[...]Enhanced oxygen consumption would explain why hypoxic stress was attenuated with LCLT supplementation.Effects of acute versus chronic L-carnitine L-tartrate supplementation on metabolic responses to steady state exercise in males and females.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16286670Under these experimental conditions, chronic LCLT supplementation increased CHO oxidation in males during exercise but this was not observed in females.Androgenic responses to resistance exercise: effects of feeding and L-carnitine.[...]Dose: 2 gramsIn summary, these data demonstrated that: 1) feeding after resistance exercise increased androgen receptor content, which may result in increased testosterone uptake, and thus enhanced luteinizing hormone secretion via feedback mechanisms; and 2) LCLT supplementation upregulated androgen receptor content, which may promote recovery from resistance exercise.L-carnitine-L-tartrate promotes human hair growth in vitro.[...]Our findings suggest that l-carnitine stimulates human scalp hair growth by up regulation of proliferation and down regulation of apoptosis in follicular keratinocytes in vitro. They further encourage one to explore topical and nutraceutical administration of l-carnitine as a well-tolerated, relatively safe adjuvant treatment in the management of androgenetic alopecia and other forms of hair loss.l-Carnitine l-tartrate supplementation favorably affects biochemical markers of recovery from physical exertion in middle-aged men and women.[...]These findings support our previous findings of l-carnitine in younger people that such supplementation can reduce chemical damage to tissues after exercise and optimize the processes of muscle tissue repair and remodeling.Personal account:I take 2 grams pre workout and 2 grams post workout after my high carb meal. Then I take another 2 grams after the meal AFTER my post workout meal (so meal #2 after lifting).I’ve noticed:-> increased leanness (not necessarily body fat reduction), but this does allow me to keep a low body fat while eating a 2500 calorie high carb diet.-> more intensity in the gym allowing higher tension placed on the muscles worked.-> better recovering from lifting sessions.-> steadier energy levels throughout the day. I attribute this to androgen receptorsensitivity and thus a somewhat higher testosterone level. Here are the benefits of L-Carnitine as a nutraceutical:-> enhanced oxygen consumption.-> might be better for males than females.-> increased androgen receptor sensitivity -> enhanced LH secretion and increased testosterone.-> better/enhanced muscle recovery.-> better carb utilizationAll around great supplement to have in one’s arsenal. Happy lifting, everyone.

Seems like a good product but the smell ugh
Seems like a good product but the smell is too horrible, and the tartrate makes this way way worse. I am not even a picky person as I use unflavored protein powder and just gulp it, but the aftertaste of this is just too much. You will also have a smell on you from this product. It’s not a ridiculous smell, but it’s noticeable to me (very sensitive to smells) and honestly it’s bothersome. When I first drank it and had the smell I wondered what it was that I was smelling.Carnitine by itself though doesn’t have this effect. I am not sure how valuable tartrate is to the absorption of carnitine, but it cannot be important enough to put up with its potent odor from the product and the smell from your body.

Great product, some concerns about carnitine in general
One of the warnings that I've read about carnitine is that if you consume too much (3 grams or more daily, a LOT) you can develop a "fishy smell" This product actually smells fishy when you open it. By "fishy" I mean it smells like fish. I was worried that it would taste too awful to drink, however when I mixed it with anything fruity, I couldn't taste it at all (I mixed with Amino Energy, Blueberry, Orange, and Lemon Lime flavors). When I mixed it with a vanilla protein drink it didn't smell fishy but the taste was slightly off -- not sure how to describe it. Another warning about carnitine is that taking too much can cause various side effects (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps) -- I had one of these side effects when I either took too much in one dose or had too much throughout the day. I have no problems when I limit myself to about 1500 mg for the day -- three drinks a day of a 1/2 tablespoon of carnitine. Also it settles and sticks to the bottom of your drink if you don't keep stirring/shaking it for the first minute. After that it's fine. I found product this to be the better deal on carnitine supplements in the market.

Happy Camper
I've just had to start taking my heart supplements seriously. I'd kinda been taking stuff halfheartedly, but after deciding to go with the protocols from GOTMAG.org and DR Sinatra, I knew I needed to step things up. I have stage IV Congestive Heart Failure and arrhythmia with hypertension and the requisite erectile dysfunction.First I tried the LCHF way to health and longevity along with intermittent fasting, but there was too much problem with insulin resistance, so I tried Zero Carb for sixty days retaining the 23/1 intermittent fast and caloric reduction.First I found that I needed magnesium, so that led to a few trials. One was from BulkSupplements, the magnesium glycinate. That introduced me to BulkSupplements, and then I tried the Taurine. The taurine seems to be everything everybody says it is, and I am very happy with it, which led me to order and re-order L-Carnatine, D-Ribose, and Potassium Chloride. Just today, after I ordered some more BulkSupplements I added in some Creatine , L-Arginie, and some Bee Pollen.Obviously, I do things in the extreme, but the doctor has me ready for a new heart valve or a new heart. I didn't get this way overnight or alone. I depended on the sound advice of all my doctors and the Food Pyramid along with a riotous first half of my life. The no carbohydrates took away my nagging appetite and I began to feel better. But it was the leg cramps when I switched to the new way of eating that led me to magnesium that led me to BulkSupplements. These days I almost exclusively rely on Now Foods for capsules and BulkSupplements for the money saving bulk containers. Since beginning I've stopped all meds except the diuretics so the cost of BulkSupplements is easily and happily absorbed.Thank you BulkSupplements and thanks for the discount coupon to re-order stuff.
