My Grandkids love hot wheels. We all grew up with hot wheel cars...we now go to buy hot wheels as a family activity..

I primarily got this because Mattel doesn't sell their old Hot Wheel Track Builder curve piece anymore (a few years ago, it was the white curve labeled as Track Builder set F). You get a similar segmented 4-piece orange curve in this set, plus a non-segmented orange curve, and a nice manual car launcher for around 1.5 times the price of the old curve! It fit my need for a decent price, and on top of that, you get a piece of high-sidewall track (which itself is fairly hard to find), and a car. This set fluctuates in price quite a bit, since Amazon seems to be out of stock fairly often - I'd say it's not really worth the extra cost if you can't buy it at retail price.I played around with the recommended set up of the track for the purpose of this review, and the car I tested out did seem to stay on the track more often than not, unlike some of the other reviews here. Your results will of course vary depending on the type and size of the car you use with it. I don't think this would keep my kids attention for very long if we didn't have other track to use it with, so keep that in mind if giving this as a gift. Overall, I give it 4 stars for value and my purposes, but it's probably more like 3 stars if I were to rate the "fun" aspect of it as a self-contained play set.

I bought this for my 2-year old sons Birthday and it worked out great. If you're looking for the simplest starter kit as far as Hot-Wheel tracks go, this is it. He had lots of fun and it was easy to use.The instructions do lack a little bit in pictures and instructions which was kind of annoying. But it's the best starter track you'll find.

good toy, race track for little cars

Was excited to give as gift, but when constructed, would’ve like to have the sides of the track more wider to hold cars around the steep curve. Cars must have the right amount of force from the start to make it around the curves to not fall out of track. This makes it harder for the younger ages to keep that momentum. Plus the curved tracks seems more flimsy than the straight tracks, making the whole thing prone to easy destruction, especially the beams that are suppose to hold the curve up. Overall, passable toy to keep kid entertained for a while, with supervision.

Easy to assemble. Easy for three year old to work. Actually pretty sturdy.

My 3-year-old grandson has fun with this gift. Easy to use and durable.
