Great value for a lot of infantry
Item arrived intact with no damage to the core rulebook. The Civil War booklet did have some damage due to the shifting sprues, but you're likely not buying this box for that. I did the math and this box is the best value (at $94-ish) of all the Warlord ACW sets available. You don't get the cavalry, unfortunately, but if you are looking for quantity this is the set to get. It's actually an older, out of production set that Warlord no longer produces, so if you're on the fence, you may want to just grab it before it goes away. The Math: Breaking the big boxes down, the value per regiment (5 stands per regiment) is: ACW Starter (this one) - 24 regiments / $3.91 per regiment Gettysburg - 24 regiments / $6.75 per regiment Guts and Glory - 10 regiments / $8.50 per regiment (terrible value, don't bother) Most people use 3 stands per regiment, so you're going to get an even better ROI with the smaller regiments. As an FYI, Warlord uses the same US pricing model as Games Workshop does (i.e. "make up an exchange rate") so the prices we see in the US can be almost double the UK prices. This set appears to have been priced prior to Warlord making that pricing change, and, as such, this box is a great deal.

Excellent Value
This is an excellent value; and includes the latest 2nd edition rule book. Compare this price with buying it directly from the manufacturer. These figures are eminently playable. Just add some British light horse and perhaps some more artillery. Adaptable to many rules sets; I glue them on 3/4 inch metal fender washers, and the use 3mm magnets to apply to metal bases as needed by the varied rules sets. The washers keep them up when playing skirmish games.Excellent and easy to paint.

High Quality Miniatures
I loved the miniatures and how many variation options you have. You can customize your army by heads, backpacks and can even make grenadier companies and such. I deviated and made the Hanoverian line into Prussian Freikorps. I do not care for the few metal pieces such as artillerymen and captains, but they still look fine. To me they simply are harder to paint and make look good. The plastic is much more fun and easy to work with.

Great way to get into Historical/Napoleonic Wargaming
I had never been really interested in the Black Powder era of wargaming as I had always been more into Ancients. But, this set piqued my interest (notwithstanding the excellent price for the starter on Amazon). Battle reports and reviews of the game pushed me over the edge and I bought this for my son and I to give it a try. While we haven't actually played any games just yet, the rules are simple enough to get a grasp of the mechanics. You get a lot of miniatures in this set and the A5 rulebook makes it easy to carry around. My only gripe with this set is that the units, both British and French, do not include the command groups for each. This isn't a deal breaker, but getting command sprues from Perry Miniatures was not something I was expecting to purchase in addition to this set. While this could be a problem for others, I don't believe it takes away from the great value and excellent introductory aspect of getting into Napoleonics. Buy this set!

This a good starter.
Looking for a 28 mm Napoleonic starter. I always think ........do I get a thousand miniatures, and do they ride unicorns. Or do you get warlord games good stuff

Great Value and Intro to Historical Gaming
It is a great box for its value. The book is great for traveling to play games and the models are very nice. It is a good box for those interested in trying the Black Powder rules.

Great Quality but Bad Packaging
Great quality on the models, although the box and book were a bit beat up, which is not uncommon from what I've seen. I also was not given enough bases for all of my infantry, missing 3 40x40s.

Possibly the greatest value for money miniature wise in a starter set for a game system. The sculpts are great, and there is more variety in the strips than other media reviews would suggest. The basic regiment sprue contains 10 strips of troops with each strip containing 10 troops. Three of these strips are different from one another: the command strip; and two basic troop strips. That’s 30 different sculpts before any repetition occurs, unrivalled by any other manufacturer. For some scale is an issue, but it shouldn’t be. Warlord Games use a true 15mm scale, exactly as it should be. From shoe sole to the top of a hat each miniature is 15mm, not 16, 17, 18 or 19 as most other manufacturers make as their 15mm line. The sculpt is great: the soldiers are slim and realistic in body proportions, not stocky like mini Hulks or with big fat heads; nor do they have hands or fists the size of cabbages. Each regimental sprue comes with a commander on horse, as well as a cannon with 4 crew. That’s 2400 line troops. 24 commanders on horse. 24 artillery pieces. 96 artillery crew. Exactly 2520 soldiers in the box! At this price no other manufacturer can compare as far as enabling a collector to field two huge armies with 12 regiments on each side. The rest of Warlords ACW Epic Battles range is far mor expensive but in most cases still much cheaper than other brands like Essex or Minifigs. As far as matching them with already established epic ranges, Kallistra’s 12mm range is a perfect match because their troops are practically 15mm too, and their sculpts are slim like Warlord Games has implemented - the appearance of these two different troops are aesthetically uniform. The Kallistra soldier base that is part of the sculpt is slightly thinner and so the soldiers automatically sit half a millimeter lower, but this can be adjusted by either filing down the strip base on the Warlord Games strips or adding a touch of height to the Kallistra soldiers by adding a layer to the bottom of the base. Peter Pig 15mm miniatures are a match height wise but are fundamentally stockier in sculpt. All in all this starter set is such a quality product that is so cheap that for those who would wish to build a huge army, the idea of getting two starter sets is not a bad idea at all! Highly recommended. Finally, the daunting task of painting can be minimised by undercoating all union troops dark blue, painting the trousers light blue, and by using a medium grey for the rebels, painting their trousers light grey. The base the soldiers are standing on in the sculpt can be painted with Vallejo’s Reflective Green which is a perfect match in colour to the Warlord Games unit bases so that they don’t need to be painted at all. The next step could be to simply paint the faces and hands a flesh colour and the armies will look pretty impressive and even more so if shaded.

Some extra models in the pictures but just to show how easy it is to do. It took about a month to paint it all up. I enjoyed doing it a lot, rules are easy and a great thing to start. Excellent value for money considering one regiment of line infantry is normally £20.
