Excellent & Methodical Academic study on Qat
For anyone interested not only on the qat plant but also on its phenomenal spread all over Ethiopia and neighbouring Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti and Yemen, this is a well-informed, academic presentation. Ezekiel Gebissa does a great service to those interested in contemporary Horn of African societies but presenting a century or so evolution on the cultivation of this narcotic, it's traditional implications in Harar (both among urban Adari peoples and extra-city Oromo farmers), the reasons for it's national spread as the favourite cash-crop of Ethiopia, etc.Well written, full of anecdotes that set the reader in the region of Eastern Ethiopia.
