That's exactly what I did because I needed the door to open to the left. I also replaced the latch with a magnetic one and a simple knob.

Absolutely, there is a cross bar across the top at the back of the cabinet that you screw into to hang it, separate from the back panel which is a flimsy almost cardboard piece and purely decorative.
