Heavy Smoker - average 3 to 7 grams daily for 25+ years. Needless to say, I know a lot about these tests and had an important one coming up.First, I will discuss the readability of the test. It says that a very light line is still a negative, however, I was getting very faint, light lines, while my wife (never smoked in her life) was getting very dark lines on the few she sampled for me--hers were as dark as the control line next to it.I was feeling uneasy about the "Negative result" because the line was faint compared to my wife. This was too important to chance, so I paid for a personal test at a Quest Diagnostics lab. Tested positive at 89 ng (cutoff is supposed to be 50 ng). Waited another week and tested again with the strips. I was now showing slightly darker lines, but not as dark as my wife who's line was always as dark as the control line. I went back to the lab and tested positive again at 43 ng.About one week after the 43 ng, (I assume my level is around 20ng at this point) I began seeing dark lines similar to my wife's test. The very next day, after multiple dark line negatives, I tried another strip and got a POSITIVE result (no line present--nothing). However I know I am well below the 50 ng cutoff at this point.I recommend anyone with serious needs to know there accurate levels spend the money and test at a local laboratory that does the same GCMS testing that your employer or school will conduct. You do not need an employer or parole officer to request the lab work. You can use a number of 3rd party agencies found on the internet to give you the test requests or find an agency that requires no referral. I have used Test Smartly with great ease. Costs are around $49-65 per test, but well worth it if you are securing a high paying position or important school program.These home tests are unreliable and the cutoff level is all over the map.
