A proper bayonet-style hood
I have a bunch of secondhand lenses, and a lot of them came with threaded hoods that don't work well with stock lens caps and can damage the glass. I shoot with gloves on sometimes and lining up threads that are 1/8" away from expensive glass and running the risk of ruining filter threads or scratching the primary lens glass is less than desirable. This hood uses the bayonet style lugs that require a half-turn and do not interfere with the front glass. There are small slits in this filter that could potentially cause light leaks, but for the price, this is just fine for preventing glare and providing an extra layer of protection.

Perfect substitute for Canon's version
I like that it is way cheaper than the one Canon sells and it does the same thing. Not sure about quality comparisons, but I'm sure this one will hold up just fine as long as you treat it with the same level of care as you do your lenses and camera body. But if it doesn't, it wont break the bank to replace, I suppose. I say just buy it! Canon is greedy demanding so much $$$ for a piece of molded plastic.

Very Nice Indeed
Works as you'd expect. Bought this for a Yongnuo 50mm f1.4 FE mount lens. It fits perfectly. Solid plastic item. Very light and does what its supposed to. Would recommend.

Not quite the quality I expected of JJC
Compared to other JJC lens hoods, this one feels a lot thinner and brittle compared to the many other lens hoods I’ve purchased from JJC. Fits well enough, but I wish it had the robustness of the other hoods I’ve bought.

Nice Option for the 50mm f/1.4 lens
Okay, so everyone knows that buying camera equipment can get to be crazy expensive and unless you have a money tree in your house or backyard, there is no reason to buy OEM for lens hoods, uv lens attachments or lens caps (though I do prefer the lens caps to match my camera brand). This may not come with the inner felt lining as the OEM Canon hood but it does have a Matt surface to prevent any glaring from the sun/artificial lighting sources. It screws on which is nice so you don't have to worry about it popping off. When using it on its reverse option, there is a little wiggle room and so, you have to make sure it actually is on tight enough. When I am not using the appropriate lens for the hood(s), I pack the lenses away in its own neoprene sleeves and attach the hoods to the exterior portion of the carrying case. So far, it works just fine. Again, if you feel the need to buy OEM go ahead but since lenses, in general cost so much, used or new, why spend more on accessories! Happy shooting!

Non Canon
The Canon lens hood cost a lot more. I am a big fan of Canon Cameras. All my Cameras and lens are Canon. I have used Canon since 1979. The only difference with hood is there is no felt inside the hood to dampen the light. So far I have not had a problem with that. Other wise the quality for this hood is very good.

Contrary to some of reviews, this lens hood does indeed perfectly fit your Canon 50mm lens, even when not in use. The problem some people have experienced with this lens hood not fitting properly is that they're trying to use it on the f1.8 50mm lens AND not on the intended f1.4 50mm lens, which it was designed for. Give your head a shake people. Great lens hood, great value for an OEM accessory.

It does what it's supposed to do, and fairly inexpensive (especially when compared to Canon original gear). Fits nicely on lens, and easy to attach/remove. Not disappointed. Since receiving, I've kept this on my lens (when attached in reverse, makes storage easy).

It does what it is supposed to do. I think the minor difference between this hood and the Canon hood is the hardness of the material. This hood is a bit thinner than the Canon, but I have no fear of it breaking under normal use.
