Beautiful book - good overview of the history of the game in the US with lovely photos of collectible vintage mahjong sets.

The pictures in this book are stunning. It is a little smaller size for a coffee table book, but is so beautiful. I love that the history is included. Great gift idea for a Mah jongg fan.

This book introduced me to the aesthetic's of Mah Jongg. The selection of photo's, layout, and copy is professionally presented. I first took out the book from the library, and after reading it I bought a copy for myself, and then I bought 3 additional copies as gifts for the players in my Mah Jongg group. The book gives me pleasure to refer to, and I do so over and over again. Bravo on a job well done.

This book is truly a visual feast for mah jongg enthusiasts and for those interested in learning about the origins of the game. It explores in depth the artistry of the tiles and the history of the Asian influences on the symbols and characters and also has chapters on unusual materials and the very popular Bakelite plastic that was used in so many of the vintage sets we see today. With heavy glossy pages and lots of informative chapters and wonderful pictures, this book just can't be beat!

There's too much focus on the American "mahjj" variety of mahjong, to the detriment of Chinese mahjong.

This fabulous book, the first of its kind, is a richly illustrated, informative and treasured resource in my library. It enabled me to identify and learn fascinating details about one of my sets from a photo that matched it exactly. As a Mah Jongg player and art history enthusiast, I was in awe of the beauty, depth and breadth of the information revealed within. This marvelous book will continue to both inspire and capture the attention of Mah Jongg players and collectors alike as word of its existence sweeps the globe!
