Cambridge Academic English B1+ Intermediate Student's Book: An Integrated Skills Course for EAP (Cambridge Academic English Course) Paperback – Student Edition, 9 Feb. 2012

I would describe this book as being an intensive set of exercises if you are trying to raise your standard of English for an exam. But don't be fooled by the intermediate grading, it focuses on using simple everyday English properly rather than practising anything complex. If you are already confident with reading and writing simple English correctly without grammar errors then go for the advanced one.

The audio sounds pretty good and not horrendously unnatural like they often do. A good mix of EAP- appropriate tracks such as lectures and student discussions.

As with all academic skills books, this book is not really appropriate for most disciplines. There is a heavy concentration on Economic, Financial and Business English, which should be separate subjects, and the sciences are poorly represented. My students are Psychology graduates and there is very little in this whole series which is appropriate or interesting for them. I wasted my money.

The numbering system in each chapter is really confusing, which makes it so hard to get everyone to understand which part of the book my teacher was talking about. Moreover, the numbering in exercise are even more confusing!! If you don't get what I mean, have a look at Grammar and Vocabulary pages.
