Nice Quality Tooling Leather Sheets — Perfect for Bag Accents & Craft Details
I ordered these full grain cowhide leather sheets to experiment with adding leather details to my handmade bags, and they’re exactly what I was hoping for. The leather is 1.8–2.0 mm thick, which is a great weight for bag accents like handles, tabs, logo patches, and strap anchors, not too stiff, but firm enough to hold its shape. The surface feels substantial and well finished, and it took nicely to basic marking and edge burnishing. I haven’t done heavy tooling yet, but it seems to handle stamps well and would be great for that if you want custom patterns. The sheet size is perfect for smaller pieces without wasting material, ideal for hobbyists, bag makers, and leather crafters who don’t need a full hide. The beige tone is a lovely neutral tone. Overall, this is solid leather for craft projects and bag details, durable, versatile, and a nice complement to fabric or vinyl-based bags. I’m excited to use the rest in future designs!

Amateur Leather Worker's Review
I am just dipping a toe into leather working, so bear that in mind while reading. I use small pieces to make covers for tiny journals, so when I saw these pieces from Urban Buck, I wanted to give them a try. My first impression on taking them out of the shipping envelope was "hmmmm, maybe these have been in storage a while." The tape holding the tissue around each tightly rolled piece was yellowed, and the plastic around each was dusty. I don't know what's going on with all that, but it leads to my next impression. The tight rolling. Because these pieces are small, I assumed they would arrive flat. Not so! Perhaps rolling materials is the standard with tooling leather, but I found the tight curl frustrating. It's going to take some working to smooth it out again. Plus, when you bend the front side of the leather back on itself, it bubbles a touch (see photo). I have not experienced this on other leather pieces I've bought, so this seems concerning. These are thick pieces - every bit of the 1.8 - 2mm advertised. I don't anticipate any problems piercing them with an awl, but I sure and heck wouldn't submit them to my sewing machine. They will make beautiful book covers and I could see them making excellent wallets or key fobs or the like. The color of each piece is rich and consistent. Happy crafting!

Perfect size for creating a new leather strop. Great quality, consistent top grain.
I ordered this top grain full leather sheet (4” x 10”) so I could put together my own leather strop. Often when I purchase a strop fully assembled, they are either too narrow or the leather isn’t what I expected or wanted. What I needed was a very fine, smooth grain so that when I applied diamond compound for stropping it would not only be applied evenly, but the stropping motion would be consistent and without waves or imperfections. Performance and Results ::: This leather is perfect for that. I’ve had it unrolled and flattened, and have even applied some compound and done some initial stropping on a flat surface. The results are impressive. The smooth, fine grain provides a very finely honed edge to the knives I’ve sharpened. Overall Impression ::: Overall, this is exactly what I wanted and expected, and the top grain leather sheet delivered. For my purposes of creating a leather strop, this sheet provides excellent value and I would easily recommend it.

Thick leather and a nice color. A bit hard to stamp.
While the Tan Tooling Leather Full Graiin Sheet of Genuine Cowhide is a beautiful color, it was more challenging functionally to imprint. It is a thicker quality and certainly durable, yet I was unable to paint it and hardly able to stamp the leather. I ordered red and black from the same company and they were easier to stamp.

Perfect for beginners or testing ideas!
Sizing is perfect for SMALL crafting and for those practicing leatherworking! Why buy the fancy stuff when you’re just starting out or have a new idea? With this you get a good quality leather piece that doesn’t shed, isn’t too stiff, and is soft to the touch - all without the price gouging. Is the outside of the leather interesting? I guess for some, for me it looks like they took the liberty of finishing it for you. The key for me was there was no smell, so however it’s finished isn’t toxic and is just design. Each piece has a nice weight to it and is a bit on the thicker side, and you can get a good number of small pieces out of it! I tried to zoom in to show how soft it is, you can tell here that it’s good quality just because its not scratchy. Beginners this is it!

Good quality, limited size, questionable price
This 6.5 inch by 6.5 inch piece of cowhide leather is smooth, even, and dense. There is no discoloration or mottling to the color. The surface is polished, so it may need to be sanded slightly if you wish to apply paints or dyes. The semi-stiff medium weight thickness is consistent throughout the whole piece and would take tooling well. I do feel the price is high compared to other options available. But if you just need a small piece for a reliably consistent quality for your project, this one will give you what you need.

Perfect size for practicing tooling.
As a newbie to leather working, I ordered this 4x10 piece to practice working with leather tools. The size is as described, and the surface is smooth and uniform. It’s appropriately stiff, although it was rolled for shipping and still has a bit of a curve. Because I’m on a tight budget, I’ve been practicing on leather from old handbags or similar sources, and the texture and weight aren’t always ideal, but good leather is *expensive.* So I appreciate being able to purchase a small, good quality piece like this at a reasonable price, which will allow me to practice without a huge commitment or a lot of waste. The size makes this great for practice, but it would also be useful for patches or jewelry pieces like earrings, pendants, or bracelets. I feel it would be too thick and stiff for other small projects like wallets or pouches. I’m pleased with this leather, and I’m looking forward to testing out my skills on it.
