Real Review

For using a device I had no experience with, the setup was easy following the directions step by step. The meter's internal operation may be complex, but the setup and use of this meter is not. Take your time, don't overthink it. After initial setup, make sure you perform the control solution baseline test. The single part of the instructions that confused me was it tells you in simple terms how to do this. It then tells you how to put the meter back into normal "blood" test mode, then how to proceed through the control solution test. ***Make sure you leave the meter in the control solution test mode to perform the control solution test***. The reference to put the meter back into "blood test mode is not part of the control solution test. I had performed a first time baseline test after the initial setup, then glucose numbers seemed to be going up after starting cardio and better control of diet. I performed the second baseline test, and it showed a higher baseline. What to do? I called the number that within the kit, tells you to call at any time, for any reason. I did, and got first someone who was not phony in interest to get me to the right area of expertise. Contact with the "Technical issue" area yielded the same interest in providing a calm, caring inquiry. Not only were my questions and concerns answered, but this contact agent, went further politely asking me questions on use of the meter, supplies, and test procedure. Definitely things I am glad they asked, confirmed, and offered corrective assistance on. A few minutes after the call I initiated, the agent called me back stating that they had further discussed a potential mistake I had made with storage of test strips. Their concern was for me getting correct results for health. They went over and above in insuring and assisting to assure this. This meter was purchased retail, no incentive was given or received by me for providing a review positive or negative

Consistent

This is a bit of a premature review as I just got the kit today, but I have no issues with it. My insurance sent me a one touch verio, but even with the insurance discount on the strips, in the long run, I will save money buying this device and using these strips out of pocket. Having a few of my old strips left, I did some comparing. I ate more sugar than usual and wanted to see how high my numbers spiked. Verio said 220. O'Well said 180. So I did both again. Verio said 232. O'Well said 185. Actually did a third. Verio said 202. O'Well said 184. I don't know if those 180's are accurate, but with a difference of 5, they are definitely more consistent than the 30 difference on the verio. I hope to compare someday at the dr to see how accurate, but even if the numbers are too low, the consistency will help me see the changes up and down much better. Verio seemed cool because I could use Bluetooth to transfer data, but it rarely did without me having to retry multiple times and turn my Bluetooth off and on repeatedly, so I no longer care if I have that feature.Love that the O'Well came with 100 strips and the control solution. Strips do have to be pushed in to the device a bit harder than other meters I've used, but it's not a problem....just surprised me the first time. Already uses to it after 3 strips. Can't review the lancets. I didn't, and probably never will, use them. I have a fastclix (accucheck brand) I got when I had gestational diabetes years ago and it spoiled me. That's where I'll spend extra money.....to keep using those refills.I'll update if my opinion changes or I figure out how accurate the readings are.

This is a consistent test kit.

Although consistent and the monitor has worked for years, the cost is someowhat expensive if Medicare doesn't pay for it.

Great price - but confusing

While the price is great (this whole kit is 1/3 the cost of my pharmacy insurance copay), this meter is very difficult to understand all the programming - a good portion of the problem is the instructions are microscopic. There are so many bells and whistles that need programmed prior to use and all I want it to do is give me a glucose reading. Cost is 5 star; ease of use (at least for me) is 2.5 stars. Works very well after the programming is deciphered.

Affordable glucose meter ever!

This is a glucose meter starter kit for patients with diabetes and non diabetic users. It's a must have in every house. Don't wait to be a diabetic patient and take control of your glucose right now. Prevent obesity and promote good food intake habits in your family while you are monitoring your glucose levels at an affordable price.

Great value!

I ordered this in error but decided to keep it because I occasionally do like to check my blood sugars despite not being a diabetic (strong family history tho). I am also a nurse so I know how expensive strips are and this is a great value for patients. It requires very little blood to test and being able to use alternate testing sites vs fingers is great.

Bulkier in size but price of glucose sticks are good.

I had the contour next Bauer system. But Owell’s glucose sticks cost less so I am giving it a try. The reader and blood extractor are larger. Reader is easy to operate. Extractor I haven’t tried yet. I find my old contour one more compact and easy to push that button to stick you, so I’ve been continuing to use it.
