I was skeptical, but now I'm happy!
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE 2025: Itcs now been 3 years. I love this tree! It is so gorgeous. It was so small when I first got it, but it just needed a little TLC. The pictures and video are ones I just took. I understand why some would be disappointed. It was literally a stick with a tiny root ball when I first got it. I also potted it for the first year and transplanted to the ground in early spring.Original review 2022:So when I got to my house and saw a small box on my doorstep I thought, "there is now way this could be a tree" but it was. It was a stick in a small bundle of packed dirt, looped around in a flat box. I planted it in a pot in early April and it was roughly a foot tall. Now in late July it has doubled in height and has several new branches with beautiful leaves. $30 is a steal for this tree! Larger ones go for several hundred dollars!

No ID tags on plants
I purchased 4 trees and 3 of them look great and sized as expected but one is very small and doesn’t look like a 2 year plant. But besides that my bigger problem is that none are labeled to tell the varieties apart??? Also they came with plastic wrap around them and no planting instructions I'm not sure weather to repot before winter.

Don’t think it’s a Hogyoku
Good and bad...The good- The trees arrived in the late fall in dormancy and were healthy with good buds. Someone complained about these being tiny when they were expecting a larger tree. I have no problem with the size (about 6” high) which is normal for a one year graft. The grafting was done well, and the packaging was very good also. In spring, nearly all the buds leafed out perfectly with vigorous growth. The tree is very healthy now in late April. The bad- I’m almost certain this is not a Hogyoku! A true Hogyoku has 7 lobes and the lobes are divided about halfway up the leaf. A Hogyoku will have thick leaves (one reason I wanted this cultivar for my hot summers), are wider, and they emerge with a pronounced sheath. The tree I received on the other hand has very thin 5 lobed leaves that are deeply divided almost to the petiole. The leaves emerged without the sheath that a true Hogyoku has.A Hogyoku is one of the few JM’s that do well in my hotter climate. I know because I have a couple already. I’m not happy with this purchase so far. There’s a slight possibility this tree will mature differently into what it’s supposed to be but I doubt it.

Nice spring color
Appears healthy and doing fine in a bigger pot. Fall will be the test for color.

tiny, young graft, definitely not a year old.

Alive and well!
Who knew you could buy a tree on Amazon? Well, it was delivered through USPS. I gave it soil in a lovely glazed pot for a home, and it is flourishing. Fab!
