Learning Teaching: A guidebook for English language teachers Paperback – 30 Mar. 2005

As a trainee teacher I have found this book invaluable. An easy writing style helps with this complex subject. I am sure it will remain one of my study bibles for a few years to come. My partner has been a teacher for 25 years and found it an interesting and refreshing read. Highly recommended for new, early life and already established teachers of a foreign language. We never stop learning - but it's nice to know books like this are there to help!

If you're an English or EFL teacher, or wanting to be either, then this book is a must have. You will use this in your studies as well as your teaching career. There are so many teaching examples and resources to help you build on your classroom experience. A great book for teachers and students. Think of this book as an investment.

The edition I bought is now 19 years old (2005). The latest edition (2011) is selling at £40 on Amazon. So, I opted for a much cheaper older edition. I'm hoping that it will not have changed too much and still be relevant since this old edition has quite recent very good reviews. The book arrived looking marred around the edges of the cover, but it's in good condition considering its age. Happy with the purchase.

This really does have all you need to start you off with TEFL. It's a lot bigger and heavier than I expected, so check your luggage allowance before buying to take on a gap year project! You won't need another "theory" book though. It includes lesson plans and ideas and a good grammar section. It's also easy to read and use.

Very helpful for my tesol course and in general

It is an excellent and very complete guide to teaching English as a Foreign Language.

An insightful read in which Jim Scrivener covered the essentials in a way that I feel would be beneficial to any reader, regardless of their prior knowledge; on top of this the presentation is easy to digest for myself as it puts emphasis on the information but it could perhaps be perceived as bland by others.

A must have reference book if you teach English as a second language. It is easy to follow and you can apply it to your classroom lessons
