Much better priced than dealer or auto stores. Auto stores carry the same product in two flavors - base + textures. I appreciate that the lock rod clips came installed in the handle. I didn’t see mention of that in the description at time of purchase. Installed and works fine so far!

This is the third tailgate handle replaced on this vehicle. Plastic becomes brittle and breaks. Wish the handle itself was metal.

When my tailgate handle broke I really found out just how necessary that part is... it was no fun using the bed of my truck after that.I went to a local place that wanted to charge $150 for the repair... so I lived with it for a while.So one of my co-workers told me about how easy it was to replace the handle myself... and that the part is less than $20! So I ordered it... installed it... and it worked like a champ!Why I waited is beyond me.So if you need to replace your tailgate latch then start now by ordering the part! Even if you are not mechanically inclined you are bound to know someone who is... pay them 20 bucks for 10 minutes of work.... and you both make out like bandits! ;)I hope this helps! Good luck!

This is, for all intents and purposes, an exact replacement of the original. Seems to be made of the same material and fits perfectly where the original was located. That being said, I expect it will break in exactly the same way and for exactly the same reason as the original did. These handles are known to be a problem for the truck manufacturer. The original did last about 8 years, so I am not complaining. I wanted an original part to replace the broken one and I do fully expect if the quality is as least as good as the original, it will last as long as I intend to own this truck. Replacement was a snap. Probably about a 20 minute job, including the removal of the old one.

My tailgate would not latch - I kept spraying lube on the ends and strikers to no avail - then I was able to finally get some up into the handle area and it worked for a little while. I finally replaced the handle/latch and now I no longer have to slam my tailgate - I only have to colse it and it latches, just like it should. You will most likely want to buy the plastic bezel also, since it is probably quite brittle and will most likely break when you take it off (necessary to replacing the handle/latch) I found mine had already been broken and was being held on with thick double sided foam tape. Fits perfect, easy to install and includes the plastic clips for the ends of the latch rods to go into. This will most likely solve your tailgate problems.

Very easy to replace, good quality. I have a '99 chevy silverado 1500 and it fit perfectly. I would recommend buying adhesive for face plate as mine is now loose.
