Even my Kids (Age 7 and 9) Enjoyed defeating 'Corona'!
I was skeptical at first about buying this game as a 'collectors edition' as we had never played it before.. But we've had a great experience with another of their games "Flash Point: Fire Rescue" so I opted to spend some more and get this version.. I'm glad we did. Everything from the Awesome Medical Case the game is packaged in, to the board and game pieces feels top notch. Very attractive presentation to suck you into the experience. My whole family was quickly immersed in the game and even my youngest (7yr old son) who has ADHD was reliably focused on what actions he could take on his next turn to help the group the most and beat back the advancing threats! Very impressive! Having played Flashpoint before the whole character traits and actions system was very easy to pickup and play, including for my kids, but as a newbie I can see how there's quite a few rules/steps to remember (we still sometimes skipped an infection or something, after drawing outbreaks, etc.). Value wise, you're better off with the standard edition.. That's just a given. But if you enjoy the game, or others like it, this is a GREAT presentation that I don't think you'll regret picking up.

Great Game and excellent solo game
Love this game. I own over 40 games of varying levels of complexity and have been playing board games for almost 40 years. This game was excellent. Based on the pandemic game steps it was simple to learn. Historical touches are nice and game was simple to learn. By about 1/2 through the first game I was moving smoothly through the steps. Some aspects were not completely clear from the first read through of the rules, but made sense on a second reading and in game play. Set up is quick. I bought this primarily for solo play during COVID. It was fantastic. Not a push over by any means. The game play was smooth and I am running about 50/50 win/loss. Because you play with three different characters that are randomly assigned, it creates a challenging game play each time. Not necessarily a game for a beginning gamer, but for a more experienced novice, this is a nice addition.

Smart, and Fun Game
First and foremost, this is a cooperative board game. All the players work together to beat the game. Secondly, my wife loves the game and woud give a 5* but I'm doing the review so it gets a 4*. This is made by the same person that developed the Pandemic board game (my favorite game). This game has some similar mechanics so players who have played Pandemic will have a slight leg up in picking up. This game is themed after the fall of the Roman empire. Essentially, barbarians are invading Roman cities across Europe and you and your friends are attempting to keep the barbarians from sacking Rome. As you play, the barbarians will continually invade cities and you must stop them (by deploying your Roman legions) AND build alliances with of the invaders. The game ends when you create 5 alliances, or you loose by allowing: Rome to be sacked, too many 'decays', or you allow too many barbarians on the board (1 way to win and 3 ways to loose). My only quibbles with the game are as follows. Some I understand but don't necessary like. 1. All of the cities are listed using Latin names. While in theme it makes communication difficult. You will sometimes find yourself tongue tied. 2. Each Role card outlines the actions that Role can execute. Too bad they gave each card a Latin name. I don't feel this is necessary and just hinders learning the game. 3. The Role card actions are diffcult to remember. Better naming would help but ultimately you need to understand and re-read your role card throughout the game to ensure you use your characters skills 4. My game was missing a piece and the process for getting a replacement piece is just too difficult. In summary, the game is smart, and creative. Coordinating with others to defeat the hoards is quite fun.

Gorgeous-looking, fun board game! Perfect for a gift!
I have played this with my smart 7 year old and he absolutely loves it! It helps to teach about pandemics and being quarantined, but also working as a team *teamwork* and is a whole lot of fun! The game is is a little complex and does have a learning curve, but once learned it is excellent and well-worth the effort!!! We play a few times a week, make it a pandemic night—just a fun game. The board, world map is beautiful, I love the Petri dishes of the viruses, and the action figure are beautiful. The case is gorgeous as well—made of heavy gauge metal. This would make a wonderful gift for your gaming fan.

Great new variation on one of the best games out there
I think this is the third in Z-Man's historical series built on the Pandemic model. I gave my husband Iberia for Christmas, and we both enjoyed it greatly, a bit more than the regular Pandemic game (it seems a little easier to win, somehow, as there are more options). My husband is a professor who is preparing to teach a Roman history class in Fall 2019, so when he saw Fall of Rome, he wanted to try it out for possible use with his class. We played it for the first time this weekend; it's quite impressive. As another reviewer remarked, it has a different feel from the other versions. Great game! It's a standalone, not an expansion to the original Pandemic, so if you get only one, I'd recommend either Iberia or Fall of Rome, though it's really helpful to have played the original game first when you're translating the concepts into barbarian invasion in the Roman game.

Good playability
This is an excellent incarnation of Pandemic. Gameplay is varied, board art is good and the cards are well drawn. Lots of variation even though the beginning is set up to reflect the period of the late Roman Empire. Components are just okay but similar to all the other variations. Great solitaire player especially if using the advanced rules.

Great game. Played four times out of the box to win once in the easiest mode (4x epidemics). Each game is different with different character skills and disease hotspots. Pretty happy I went for the deluxe 10th anniversary version - looks great! Perfect for couples as you cooperate to win together.

Thanks to this marvellous game I knew EXACTLY what to do during the ACTUAL pandemic. And now there's no more pandemic, so you tell me who won!

A different take on the classic Pandemic system. It adds an element of luck when your roll dice to determine how well you fight the barbarians. It might be difficult to learn how to play if you have never played Pandemic before since the game play and cooperative structure are tricky. We play Pandemic a lot and picked this up quickly. There were enough differences to make it interesting, and I particularly liked the ancient Roman theme. I'm worried that it might feel to easy after some time, however, since there are no expansions.
