Winner winner, chicken dinner!
Winner winner, chicken dinner! I really enjoy playing chess, and this board makes the experience both easy and enjoyable. The magnetic pieces are a great feature, allowing us to move the board from the coffee table to the dining table without ever losing our place in the game. It keeps everything secure, even if the board is bumped or shifted.Another feature I love is the built-in storage. All the pieces fit neatly inside the board, so nothing ever gets misplaced. The compact design makes it perfect for travel—small enough to pack without taking up space, yet sturdy enough to provide a solid playing surface. Whether at home or on the go, this board is a convenient and reliable option for anyone who loves chess.

Compact, Convenient, and Kid-Friendly—A Solid Starter Chess Set
The 13-Inch Magnetic Chess Set with Foldable Plastic Board is a great value pick for beginners, kids, or casual players looking for a convenient travel-size option. With its classic black-and-white design, magnetic pieces, and folding board that doubles as storage, this set checks most of the boxes for functionality and portability. Whether you’re introducing chess to a child, playing a quick game on the go, or brushing up your skills, this set makes it easy and accessible. The magnetic feature is a major highlight—it holds the pieces firmly enough so they won’t slide around with slight movement, making it ideal for use in cars, on planes, or even on uneven surfaces. The plastic construction isn’t luxury-level, but it’s durable enough for everyday use and resists chipping or cracking. The board folds neatly and locks shut with room inside to store the pieces, which adds a nice level of convenience for travel or quick cleanup. While the pieces are lightweight and hollow, they are shaped accurately and sized appropriately for the 13-inch board. The set is easy to set up and pack away, and the design is intuitive for both adults and kids. That said, serious tournament players may find it too small or too light for their standards, and the plastic feel won’t appeal to those looking for a traditional wood finish or premium aesthetics. For the price, however, it offers excellent value. You're getting a functional, travel-ready chess set that’s perfect for classrooms, road trips, or casual home play. It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable and does what it’s supposed to do.Pros:Magnetic pieces hold well during playFoldable board with internal storageGreat size for travel or smaller spacesIdeal for kids, beginners, and casual playLightweight and durable plastic buildBudget-friendly and easy to giftCons:Plastic construction may feel cheap to someToo small or light for serious tournament playersMagnetic hold isn't strong enough for rough travelOverall, this 13-inch magnetic chess set is a practical and fun way to enjoy the classic game anywhere. It’s not a luxury set, but for beginners, kids, or families on the go, it delivers good quality at a great price.

The best game you can have in an office.
It's easy to organize, setup, and put away. The guys at the office can't have enough of it. The magnets hold on fairly strong and the size makes it easily portable. Great quality for it's price.

A Nice Basic Game Board That is Lightweight and Good for Travel
This is a pretty nice board, better than expected, even though it is very basic. It provides what you need to play the game. I picked it up because I wanted something lightweight that my daughter can take with her when she meets up with her friends at starbucks. The board folds in half and is itself a storage box for the pieces. It snaps shut and stays closed, so there are no worries about it accidentally popping open.I do find the included drawstring bags for the pieces convenient. They are nothing fancy, but they make it much easier to keep the chess and checkers pieces separate. The pieces are magnetic and mostly stay in place. The size is slightly bigger than expected which I prefer.Overall, it's a decent, inexpensive option if you just want something simple, light, and portable. The only thing I didn't like is that there is what appears to be messy dried glue on the inside of the case. This isn't a problem since it's on the inside but really takes away from what would otherwise seem perfect. (See picture)For casual simple fun, or travel, it works very well.

I'm disappointed with this set.
Unfortunately, this set just isn't as good as I thought it would be. It's not horrible, but it's not great. I've had many travel chess/checkers sets that are better than this one.The pros: the board lays flat. The magnets work. The pieces are a nice, easy to handle size. It has mesh cinch bags for storing the pieces. The 3 mesh bags fit inside the folded board. It comes with instructions for both games. The cons: it looks and feels a little cheap. It came with some dents and a slight scratch on the board - poor quality control. It's a little heavy and bulky for travel, unless it's for a car trip. Every finger print shows on the board. I'm kinda OCD when it comes to fingerprints so this bothers me. At the current price I was expecting this set to be a lot better than it is.

Nice Magnetic Chess Set Suitable for Travel
I got this to take on trips and to teach my grandkids how to play chess. It's a nice little set with the board grid markings for teaching and using chess notation. The pieces are similar to traditional Staunton style and have a good weight and feel for a travel set. The set also comes which checker pieces, but these don't work as well since they don't stay stacked - which is a little surprising. I would have thought that the magnets would keep the checker pieces together, but they are apparently not strong enough.Another possible issue for long-term use are the hinges. As a mechanical engineer, I really do not like "living hinges". They really should be called "dying hinges" because they will - over time - fail from repeated folding and unfolding. I would much prefer to have actual turnbuckle type hinges since they are much more reliable over the long haul. But this is a relatively inexpensive set intended for infrequent use, and materials technology has improved, so this is a pretty good value.
