How can people say this is the real thing?

By the very fragrant, gently muted floral scent that precedes your entrance into a room.

How do I know if it's authentic?

I have used Casual for years and love it but the one that I ordered from Amazon did not smell like the Casual that I had used for years! I don’t know how you can tell if it is authentic. I have not ordered any more.
