Is it easy to remove the red cup gauge inside the kettle?

Yes, very easily, just wiggle the gage from side to side and it comes off , can easily be put back on if you change your mind. Sorry it's taken so long to reply, only tried to remove it today.

To be honest I would not touch the side of a kettle that contains boiling water, the handle does not get hot at all
