It says it's a wall mounting type does that mean it doesn't come with its own stand?

I purchased the 24". It did come with a stand. I wanted to hang it so I bought a generic wall mount which fit well.

how far apart are the legs on the 40" model?

Too far in my opinion. I like centered support. It's 31" at the farthest most point between the legs.
