Wonderful!
I gave this book a five star rating because it is an excellent book. It's written for the young but that doesn't mean older people won't enjoy it as well. I read it because I needed something to lighten up my day and this worked. The bad guy gets his own just desserts in the end and the abused person is able to become what she has always dreamed about. This was a book that made you wish there were more stories about the main characters because it was so enjoyable. It would make a good series. I was disappointed when it ended because I enjoyed it so much. I would recommend this book to children or young adults but as I said previously anyone older will enjoy it as well because it is a good fantasy story.

This is a wonderful book series for everyone!
In the words of my 10 year old: "The author described everything so well, and they can be funny sometimes, and they are just really good books."

Kindle version lacking
The story itself is quite cute with a bit of Roald Dahl vibe, the descriptions of exotic treats are intriguing and fun. The Kindle version is a disappointment. It's very expensive for such a short book - the same price as the real hard-cover version. Even worse, the illustrations are all minuscule, smaller than a postage stamp and impossible to read. Comparing the preview of the real book, it seems a number of the smaller illustrations weren't even included. Total ripoff - buy the real book but definitely not the Kindle version!

DELIGHTFUL!!!
The alchemical mysteries of gourmet food, indeed! Read this book to my six year old grandson over a period of a week. Sometimes we would go back and re-read sections that were mysterious or made us laugh. We talked alot about the characters and about what might be in Madame's concoctions. I was amazed that a young boy who would normally rather be reading about dinosaurs was so fascinated with this book! It is definitely a book that will stay in my library for reading to other children. Rupert Kingfisher has produced a little masterpiece!

delightful
While I was reading this charming book that took me into the magical world of Madeleine, Madame Pamplemousse, and Camembert, I couldn't help but think it reminded me of Roald Dahl's books. When I read the author's bio I saw that Dahl was one of Kingfisher's favorite authors. The influence is definitely there in this children's book. I loved the description of food and Paris. The story is delightful in every way and people of all ages will enjoy this.

Wonderful!
We read this as part of our Torchlight curriculum and it was enjoyed by all. They’re already asking for the next book. I love when that happens.

Just a Wonderful Story and a great discovery
Found this as a recommendation following reading The Adventures of Miss Petitfour and what a great find. My daughters love hits story. Its a heart warming whimscal journey of a story that easy to follow and explore - was reading it as a chapter a night with my daughters who couldn't wait each time as has become a new favourite book for the whole family. Loved so much that we had to buy the sequels

Excellent; not sure why the e-book's (kindle) illustrations are minute (I have a kindle fire)
You have to squint to see the illustrations - though the pictures are great. The story is excellent and very well written. I'm an adult; I write for children so I like to/love reading books for children. Would recommend this to parents and children. Suitable for children of Key Stage 2, probably Level 4 or 5, UK education. But then it's difficult to say! Its got a few difficult words but it should still be ok - the concepts of food and eating are quite sophisticated but again, shouldn't spoil a child's enjoyment. You need to stretch children a little after all.

A gentle, whimsical story
This light-as-a-breeze story is gently whimsical and heart-warming. Children who have enjoyed Eva Ibbotson's fantasies would probably like to read this. As an adult, this book performed the function of a sorbet course in a meal - a delicious morsel to clear your palette before reading something more demanding. It's very visual and I can imagine it making a great animation.(By the way don't confuse this with Michael Bond's Monsieur Pamplemousse series.)

Lovely book, great for 8yr old
I bought this book to read to my 4 and 8 year old girls at bedtime. The story and the setting seemed nice. I read one chapter to them but my 8 year old wanted to know the rest and she finished reading it in one evening as she couldn't put it down. No need to say she was severely punished for going to bed past 9 :) Last time she read a book in one go it was with David Walliams (she's a true fan); it's that good.
