I am updating my review. I can no longer recommend the AquaTru carafe. I reached out to cs and let them know that cycles were no longer running when I refill the tank and put the carafe in place. I have to unplug and replug to get it to run a cycle. They said I need to descale the unit???? Nowhere on the product page does it say descaling is part of the maintenance. Also it says you should replace the RO filter when you descale. No way on earth am using a RO machine that I have to descale and replace the RO filter every 4 months. I would strongly advise against this machine. RO filter should last two years. I'm going back to my tried and true rkin zip filter. They wouldn't even fix this under warranty...which makes it terrible product support in my book. ********** I have been using a tabletop RO system for the better part of a decade. I decided to get a new system because mine was old and full of hard water stains. I was drawn to this one because of the upfront cost, compact size and pitcher. My last unit was extremely reliable and worked great but one thing I hated was I had to basically collect the water in a bowl and transfer it to a pitcher because the spout was too close to the counter to fit anything underneath other than a highball glass. I also was attracted to the pitcher being glass because i just don’t like my water sitting in plastic. Pro’s 1. Easy to set up 2. The pitcher is very convenient to just grab fill up a glass, bottle, espresso machine etc. 3. Works great at filtering water. RO systems are the best 4. Easy to install/change filters 5. Good upfront price 6. Small footprint 7. Glass storage 8. Pitcher and tank is dishwasher safe. The tank came out discolored and I did get a faulty pitcher that cracked in the dishwasher. So maybe not? Cons 1. Very lightweight and plastic-y 2. No on/off button! It starts automatically and sometimes when there is still wastewater in the tank. 3. You have to have the mfg pitcher in place (perfectly) in order for it to work period. It will not produce water without it and the lid has to be on perfectly with the bobber. 4. The pitcher is glass and easily breakable with no plastic or silicone reinforcement to prevent it from breaking. I’m on my 3rd pitcher in 2 months and they take FOREVER to get a replacement. One cracked in the dishwasher which was covered under warranty and my cat knocked the other off the counter…crash 5. Poor availability of replacement pitcher. Not available on mfgr website and it takes a month to get it on Amazon. This is unacceptable. Just look how many pitchers Amazon has sold this month. 6. Not cost efficient due to pitcher easily breaking, low availability of a replacement and no alternate option 7. You have to purchase the base slider separately. You can’t gain access to the water tank without this thing if you have it under a cabinet. It should be included or built into the machine. 8. The water tank is hard to put back on the base and nothing locks/snaps it in place. You really have to push down on both sides evenly and hard to get it to stay and still it sometimes comes loose and falls backwards. I spill water constantly trying to get the tank on the base. 9. The waste water collects in the same water tank as the fresh water and re-filtering waste water can prematurely kill your machine. Sometimes when I pull the pitcher out to fill up my glass and return it to the base, it will reset and start filtering the waste water. There is no way to stop this other than keeping the pitcher off the tray or removing and emptying the water tanks. There should be a better way to prevent this considering it can prematurely damage the machine. Overall, this is a nice little machine for the price. I don’t know that I would choose it again because of the shortfalls and the lack of availability and cost of the replacement pitcher. This is the reason for 3 stars. I am already looking for something else even though I have only had this for 2 months. I am currently using my old counter top unit because I don’t have a pitcher. Been waiting 3 weeks now on a replacement. Good thing I still have my old trusty RKIN unit. I couldn’t include any photos of the pitcher because I don’t have one! Waiting…impatiently… This could easily be fixed with the option of a plastic pitcher or a silicone or plastic mold that fits over the pitcher reinforcing it. I would prefer the latter. Wish list - better pitcher, on/off button, and some sort of guide or clip/snap to hold the tank in place.
