Can you lay the bottle on it's side, does it leak?

What is it made of(I'm looking for plastic free)

Mostly metal...but inside the black cap, there's the actual stopper, which of course is plastic..so it can squeeze into the champagne bottle.

Is this Dishwasher safe?

It most likely is but I have always just rinsed it off with water. It really does not get dirty enough to require cleaning in a dishwasher.
