OTTER SKINNER knife kit/DIY KNIFE KITS/PAYNE BROS (BAMBOO)

I loved it.This is my first time doing something like this, and it was a great deal of fun. I’m super happy with the result, although the knife is overall much heavier than I expected. Watching a couple of the YouTube videos rally helped make the instructions clearer.The only “downside” is the “need” to buy more tools. We already had a scroll saw, router, and rotary tool, but we picked up a belt sander and small grinder. The belt sander made assembly much easier.I am now likely to start making more of this sort of thing as thank you gifts.I tried this kit as an investigation into a possible project for teenagers. I think it would be great for older youth. Unfortunately, we were looking for something that could be done without power tools, and I’m not entirely sure this fits the bill.Still, I’m super happy with this product, and will buy again.

This is the second knife that I made, but the first from Payne Bros. It was sharp and well made. The purpleheart wood was nice with no defects or unusable areas. The pins were the right size, but they did need some grinding to clean up the ends where they were cut. That wasn't a big deal because the pin stock comes in one piece and needs cut in half anyway. I did end up buying stainless corby bolts for the handle but the pins with the kit would have worked just fine. I will be buying more knives from Payne Bros.

This was a gift to get someone started in knife making. They were really excited about it & eager to start it. Eveything was there.
