200 or 100?
I'm big on emergency preps, but then, I spent 14 years driving ambulances and I currently do emergency communications as an amateur radio operator on a volunteer basis with my state and county offices of emergency management. These little lanterns work great for emergency lighting during power outages and for extended periods during other emergencies. They also work great fro recreation, and have a permanent home in my camping gear. But one other use my wife and I found for them a couple of years ago is Halloween decoration. These make great pumpkin lights! We have a half dozen plastic pumpkins that these fit in perfectly. We then hang the pumpkin handle in the teeth of a skeleton head, and hang the head from one of several hooks around our front porch. We do this with six of these and it works great, with the weight of the lantern keeping the pumpkins from blowing around too much in the wind. This Halloween though I had to go digging in my emergency gear for an extra lantern, because one got misplaced. I figured I'll just order a three pack and have a couple of spares on hand. One thing I noticed on the new lanterns though is that there's a discrepancy between what the big tag on the handle says about battery life, and what the little vinyl sticker on the lens of the lantern itself says. The tag on the handle says "200 hours in flashing mode" and the one on the sticker says "100 hours when flashing". My experience with these in flashing mode is that the true number is somewhere between those two. I've run them with fresh alkaline batteries, in flashing mode, marking a "danger area" (tripping hazard with antenna coax lines) for 6 days (144 hours) and probably would have put in fresh batteries that night if we'd stayed there any longer. It would be nice to hear what Life Gear themselves have to say though.

Grand kids love this light
The lamp throws a reasonable amount of light if you use it for camping or emergencies. The best option for this small lamp is a gift for young kids. The lamp glows bright white, red, and flashing red. Batteries last a long time. This was a very popular gift for our grand kids ages 3-7. Hope this helps.

Tiny but bright
These tiny little lanterns have a handle but cannot be hung unless you fashion a hook or from something with hook-like hardware. I own a similar, bigger, lantern which is also made by Life Gear and it has one important extra feature, a hook on the bottom to hang it. Other than that they are almost as bright as the larger version. I like them because they can be store around the house/apt/office out of sight but easily accessible like in a bed side drawer, your desk or work area, even tucked away in the bathroom. They are plastic so don't drop them, however, they are surprisingly weighty when the batteries are in. I did originally order 3 pks of 3 each and had to return several for damage as the manner of shipping was the issue. There was no packing materials in the box just 3 sets of 3 each in plastic bags just banging around in a box that was too big to be without any packing material.

If you previously owned life gear and had any of their products that had X amount of battery life THESE ARE NOT LIKE THAT!
My fault I didn't read enough and 3 AAA batteries are required. If you previously owned life gear and had any of their products that had X amount of battery life THESE ARE NOT LIKE THAT !!!! The initial price is great.....the continuous replacement of batteries NOPE. Won't buy again and I was going to have to pay to ship back so naaa I will just keep them.
