Maruhachi Muramatz Katsuo Dashi Soup Base 1.75-Ounce Units (Pack of 10)

I was initially intrigued by this dashi soup base because I was looking for something without MSG, which I was willing to pay a little more for. I find the stock bags lacking in flavor compared to other dashi soup bases I've used, including Hon Dashi. Try some bonito flakes and fish sauce for a homemade base without the expense of prepackaged blah.

The dashi packs are very well made but these 50 packs had an expiry date less than 3 months from arrival. No way you can finish them all unless you run a restaurant or have 10+ people in your family to feed.

This is the flavor that was missing from my Miso soup. This adds a subtle flavor, has no MSG and is delicious. I am sure it can be used for other recipes too but I am happy making good quality Miso soup with it.

Very good. A little lighter in taste than few other dashi I have bought in the past but the flavor is pleasant and I enjoy the miso soup I make with it.

This is highly misleading. It says no MSG but hydrolyzed wheat protein is a more "friendly" term for MSG aswell as yeast extract, BOTH of them are in this product and both are terms for msg. They should be ashamed because people with msg allergies could get sick eating this product!!! Here is a link explaining "hidden" msg on labels. Get educated. [...]

Wanted a healthier alternative to normal chemical laden ramen soup. A little bland. Have to add mushrooms, chicken broth, vegetables, ginger, garlic, etc.

I love the flavor and use it in the diakon soup with wakame (bits of dried seaweed). Although the "Best Before" date has passed when I received the item, I don't really care and still use it.

A convenient must-have for making Miso soup.
