Mystical City of God: Volume I-IV Hardcover – January 1, 2009

I was raised Protestant but lost my way and stopped believing.Long story. I knew little about Catholicism and less about Mary.The short story: I was guided to read, as my first introduction to the life of Mary, these four volumes. It took me almost six months, reading an hour or two almost every day. I did it.I have begun the process of converting to Catholicism. My belief in God has been restored. The most important thing to understand about Mary is that She takes no credit. She gives all praise and Glory to God, Father Son and Holy Spirit, as Her Creator. As Christ in Jesus is the Perfect man, Mary as Mother of God (Created without sin) is the Perfect Woman.Formally, "The Mystical City of God," is allowed as worthy of study, but is not required. It helped me to recognize my personal situation and need. If as a child, you once believed, this might help you too.

Spent a lot of time digging through the old libraries in Spain: Tanquerey Spiritual Life, Carmelite Devotion Book from 1899 and lo!! - (2) 600+ page rare books on The Immaculate Conception. One from 1895, the other from 1621! Mystical City of God is the follow-up to the 1621 tome and was first published around 1660.. These are beautiful hardcovers, lucid, easy on the eyes text and papers. Quality books. Goes well with Revelations of Saint Bridgette. Jewels.

The book is a real TIMELESS TREASURE! It's soul awakening and enhances FAITH.! Prayer becomes much more deep & meaningful!

I love these books. They are beautiful and well put together. I love the feel of the coverings of these books (it’s a type of thin cloth). Of course, what these books contain is very important, very powerful, and very beautiful. I highly recommend that everyone read these books. They will foster a deeper love of Our Lady and Our Lord, Jesus Christ as well as a deeper love of God, our Father and the Holy Spirit, Giver of Live and Sanctifier! This will bring about a deeper, more profound relationship with God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), as well as with our Lady!I have but one complaint, when I received my books and opened the package, I noticed that there is a small tear at the bottom of the spine of volume I (see attached picture). However, it isn’t bad and so if Amazon can live with selling things such as this, so can I. Amazon usually sells and ships good quality books.A quick story on how God works and grants us what is pleasing to Him and what will be of benefit for our sanctification: I had wanted these books for a long while, they were $108 when I didn’t have the extra money to buy them. Once I had the extra money, they were $138. Now, I prayed that if it is the Will of God that I get these books, please let the price go back to what it was previously, or at least close to it. Wouldn’t you know, the very next day, actually only about 12 hours later, the price fell to $108!!! So, of course I bought them, and just a few hours later the price had increased to nearly $125. The point is, pray and God will hear you! I know these books are truly from our Lord and our Lady, otherwise He wouldn’t have wanted me to purchase them!!!

READ ON IF YOU'RE CATHOLIC, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE EITHER "THE MYSTICAL CITY OF GOD", OR THIS REVIEW. I am about halfway through the four-volume set, and no doubt this is the most extraordinary book ever written, after the Bible, of course, and "The Imitation of Christ" (Thomas à Kempis). A retired priest friend of mine mentioned that tradition teaches that the Blessed Virgin Mary was entrusted to the Temple when she was 3 yrs. old and she left ten or more years later. I did some research, and stumbled upon "The Mystical City of God." Influenced by the overwhelming positive comments (and ignoring the single negative comment, to be expected from those who practice "Sola Scriptura", i.e., the Protestants), I ordered the 4-vol. Set and have not been able to put the book(s) down since their delivery. At the midway juncture, I am deeply humbled by the fact that God directed me to this treasure trove, and my heart breaks knowing how few will even discover it, let alone understand it. Simply put: if you're Catholic, you know that our Faith is derived from Scripture and Tradition. Since this is not Sacred Scripture, it is Tradition, and what a Tradition! You will NOT be able to put the book(s) down, once you start reading. I will never be the same, God having poured His Light into my heart and soul, through Ven. Maria de Agreda's writings (astoundingly beautiful, and even more astoundingly beautifully translated into English). Jesus, I trust in You. +++++Returning to my review as I am now finishing the 4th volume, only to confirm what I have written above. Strangely, although I could not possibly have known the facts revealed to Ven. Maria de Agreda, as related in "The Mystical City of God", the more I read, the more I felt confirmed in my own faith. Readers (Catholics, primarily, or those called by the grace of God): if you, too, have stumbled upon this treasure trove, do NOT turn away, but rather take the plunge. Apart from the Bible and the Imitation of Christ, this is the BEST book I have ever read, and I read a lot. O Blessed Virgin Mary, protect your children in your mantle of purity.
