Why The Whales Came: the perfect children’s story of friendship, the environment and accepting differences

Each book I read by Michael Morpurgo becomes my new favorite, This book, Why the Whales Came, will be at the top of my list for a long time I am sure, The mixture of emotionality and nature, both animal and human, is superb. I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a children's narrative written to reach an adult's sensibilities just as much.

The Isles of Scilly are full of mysterious stories. Small tight knit communities often contain a treasure trove of half truths, suspicions, petty jealousies and the like. This provides the fertile ground in which stories arise and the defenceless suffer. Young adventurers are less burdened by the weight of suspicion or burdened by prejudice. So it is in this story. The heroine and hero through their friendship with an old recluse save their neighbours from making a tragic mistake. I will avoid spoilers but this story is grounded in myth and is imaginatively told.

Hi I loved reading this book because I love Michael Mourpurgo and the way that he writes stood that is why I love chosen a five star rating for this book. I think that Why The Whales Came is the best book he has written because it is all about adventure, friendship and understanding each other. Right From the start of the book I knew that the Bridman wasn't evil because when the children go and meet him for the first time he never does anything to them. The only thing that I don't understand in this book is why it is all about war. I mean I can understand way but every Michael Mourpurgo book that I have ever read has been about war apart. from Running Wild. That is my only bone that I wanted to pick with this book. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age that likes. Michael Mourpurgo
