Just right for a walk and at a reasonable price
As I get older my skin gets less tolerant of the sun on the back of my neck(or anywhere else for that matter). I got tired of putting my shirt up over my head when the sun was at my back so I decided to find a sun hat. Wow, the choices on amazon are too many to take in. I happened on this one cause it was what I wanted in terms of the style/look/function. It had to have protection on the sides and the back...and it has to fit my big head. For the price I thought..."what the heck!". For $15 you get what you pay for. It fits and protects the sun without issue. It breathes well on top and believe it or not...it's washable. I think it has a foam brim cause I've washed it a few times and if it were cardboard it would have been in the trash by now. It definitely isn't plastic. The one caveat I would tell potential buyers is the one size fits all aspect. I'm one of those rare people who's head is rather large. I go at a 7 5/8 to 7 3/4" head size and finding a hat that wouldn't cut off my circulation around my ears was tough. This one isn't adjustable if you have a large head per se. It has an elastic headband(think the same type as in underwear) that stretches out to your size. At first mine was a little tight but as time went on....the hat/elastic seemed to loosen and fit comfortably. If you have a rinky dink head then the adjustable part is when you use the strap in back(as pictured). Also, this is a very light type material...no heavyweight to it. So if your in a windy area you might wanna try a hat clip to pin to you shirt. Where I'm at it's not an issue. For $15 it works for me. Solved all my head and neck sunburn issues easily.

Got this for my dad - it's now his favorite summer hat
Got this for my (retired) father who likes to spend his spare time outside. He has a skin condition that causes him to burn easily, so he has to wear long sleeves in the summer and a hat with a brim in the winter. He had been having trouble finding a summer hat he liked. If he wore a straw or 'breezer' type hat, the mesh would let enough sun through it would (in his words) burn the bald spot on his head. If he wore a baseball style hat, his neck would sunburn. If he wore a large brimmed hat, the wind would blow it off. To sum it up, he says he loves this hat, and it is now his favorite summer hat. The brim is big enough to keep the sun off his face and ears, and the little 'cape' out the back protects his neck. In a gust of wind, the 'cape' will flutter a bit, but doesn't catch the wind like a large brim does, keeping the hat on his head. There is a mesh liner, which allows air to circulate through, keeping his head cool, and the cloth outer shell protects his (balding) head from the sunlight. The size is adjusted with a spring-loaded clip on a cord that runs through the headband. If your head is an adult's size S to XL, I'm pretty sure it would fit fine. The brim goes 3/4 of the way around, with the last 1/4 being the cape that covers your neck.We didn't have it long enough to see how it will hold up long-term, but if it just lasts this summer, it will be worth it, for my dad (or anyone else who burns easily).

Great golf hat!
I'm using this as a golf hat, where there's not a bit of shade within 400 yards and you're out in the sun for hours at a time. This has to be the lightest most unstructured hat ever. The 2 3/4 inch bill is reinforced but the crown is just a thin layer of polyester fabric lined with mesh. The rear flap is a double layer of fabric 8 inches long at the back and about a foot wide, wrapped around the rear crown. It doesn't have a cord to keep it on but it does have a draw cord to tighten the crown to adjust fit.I've machine washed it several times with no ill effect, but I always let it air dry. It's so light it dries quickly. It's so light that it tends to flatten down on top of your head. I tighten the cord so that it sort of perches on top of my head. Despite this I've never had a problem with it blowing off.Edit: I just bought my second one. I've used and washed the original hat many times and it's threadbare. I've tried other sun hats, but they were all too heavy with thicker material. I love this hat!

Keeping the sun off my face and neck.
I've had the opportunity to wear the hat for several hours now, it works for the activities I'm doing and it stays put fairly easily. Keeping the sun off the back of my head, neck and face were my main objectives and so far it has done all that. My family tells me that its a bit of a new look for me but I'm sure they will get use to the look over time. Maybe my haed size is a bit on the large size but the hat fits well to the slightly snug fit. The elastic around the crown area of the hat fits my head well with little to no adjustment needed from the pull cord. I don't normally wear hats like this so it generally meets my expectations. Time will tell how well the hat holds up with use.

Very Light, OK for hiking and running
I primarily bought this hat for hiking and running. I wanted something to protect my neck and that had a brim all the way around, as opposed to a cap style. The positives are it is very light and well ventilated. I found my head much less overheated than when I wear a ball cap style hat. Also it is very packable/crushable.The negatives are the brim and neck guard are almost too light and flimsy. They blow up in even a slight breeze reducing their effectiveness. Had they put a plastic stiffener in the brim instead of the quilted type stitching, and put some type of a plastic clip on the bottom of the neck flap it would solve those problems without adding much weight.Even with the negatives, I still prefer it over a ball cap style or a heavier bucket type hat, and not a bad deal for the price.

Great product!
A fantastic product for the money! The kids love them! Bright colors so my kids can explore campgrounds and woods and be seen easily! Great sun protection! They don’t get sweaty heads! They don’t fight me to wear their hats now either.
