Meant for British Readers
The book I received is clearly written for UK residents, not American. I had to research some of the terminology used, such as "dummies" (pacifiers), "nappies" (diapers), etc. All of the resources listed are in England, which does not help us, since we live in the USA. This should be noted in the Amazon description...had it been so listed, I would have purchased from another source for an American edition, which I know exists.

I first used this with my children in the early 1970s. I found it invaluable, not only reassuring but unpatronising in that it is only prescriptive when necessary and generally discursive rather than didactic. I have recently bought this latest edition for my son and his wife to use with their first baby. I think they were sceptical initially as they have read so many books with more didactic and limited approaches, and probably less intelligent approaches also. They are now Spock converts.

My Mum's copy was a regular paperback when I was young-this new version is huge!-but highly informative and engagiing so im very pleased.

Brilliant at inspiring confidence.
Dr Spock was a fund of knowledge when I was bringing up my children. The 9th edition, which I've bought for my daughter, is revised by Dr Robert Needlman, but the message remains the same - parents know more than we think. Brilliant at inspiring confidence.

On opening the parcel I was disappointed to see that the spine of this thick paperback ...
Book was gift for an expectant friend. I have an earlier edition and didn't actually look through this one. I expected it to contain the same gems of advice as I had received in my copy. On opening the parcel I was disappointed to see that the spine of this thick paperback was wrinkled- nothing to do with the p&p but maybe a fault in book production or possibly storage?
