Yes, batteries are included and installed. All you need to do is pull out a little plastic tab to activate the batteries.

I don't remember the actual phrases, I just know I was not amused by the button. I originally got it as a gift for a friend. He did not care to much for it either.

There are 6 or 7 different phrases, with different character accents, one sounds like Bugs Bunny, one voice sounds like Clint Eastwood. Bought this for my hubby for Christmas 2019 and he used it in his office initially when he was a Maintenance Supervisor, brought it home when Coronavirus started and it has been sitting in the living room ever since. Pretty easy to hit the button when you don't want to add anything else. Unless you have a young child say 5 or younger that isn't used to hearing it or know that its inappropriate to repeat, I would keep it out of reach of smaller children. My son knows he's not allowed to say "f- it" but if he doesn't like being told to finish his dinner or he won't get a snack later, he just hits the button before he hits the hallway. Its comical in a non-invasive way. I recommend this, we love it, use it daily, batteries still good, seems durable enough for this house. Hope that helps!
