Italeri 1:72 - French Grenadiers (Nap.Wars)

As expected. A little tricky to assemble. Well produced.

We saw some of these in a craft shop for a lot more money. They are great for adults who want to paint and display them as a hobby

The French Grenadiers of the Old Guard made up one of the most famous fighting forces in military history and these 1 72 scale unpainted figures by ITALERI help do them fine justice. Cast on 2 sprues of blue plastic, there are 48 separate figures on offer here - including a double of an officer assisting a wounded colleague - to rightly make up the 50 figurines as stated on the box. Poses are what we may expect, with troops marching, reloading their muskets and firing (in both standing and kneeling variations) while there is also a sapper wielding an axe - made famous by the exploits of Legros at Waterloo! Command figures are an officer with sword, drummer and standard bearer with furled flag. Details are nice and clear and there is surprisingly little flash on the figures. Most of it is evident on the bayonets but this should prove little problem to clear even by relatively inexperienced model makers. Anybody wishing to complete their French army with this set of Old Guard soldiers - and to be honest, NOT having them is like assembling a Napoleonic army with no Infantry! - should give these superb figures a look.

These figures don’t look ready for a battle field walk more like a cat walk. They do not match the dimensions of the others in the same range. They are the same scale but heavily stylised. Very sallow limbed

Most of the figures were nicely done, especially the faces, but a few looked less finished. Maybe in these cases a less experienced artist was still learning the craft. More flash than I would like which perhaps means the molds were not cleaned enough? All in all, I am quite happy.
