Keeps crabgrass from growing. But you have to spread it out before it starts to grow. Just read the directions on the bag.

Didn't follow the directions one year and applied too much in some places. Had to live with the bare spots until the new seed I planted took off the following year. Since that disaster I apply Halts according to directions and never had an issue. Don't know how Amazon can ship a heavy item to your door for around the same price you can buy it at the store, but glad they can. Update: Can't remember how long ago it was. But when I was a few decades younger, you could buy a 15,000 sq ft bag for around $35. Seems like the weight of the package was at least 45lbs, maybe 50. Now you get 40lbs, and it costs you almost 3 times more! I'll keep using it though. I've used generic pre-emergent's in the past, but nothing compares to how well "all" Scott's products work. Update: Want to mention again that you can buy this same stuff for similar cost + or - a couple of bucks as big box stores, and it's delivered to your front door! Early March is when I apply it. It's in the garage now waiting; waiting for me to get my ambition up to push the spreader when it's time.

Didn't work all that well or I didn't put it down heavy enough.
