SUPERB !!!!
I could spend all day writing about how good the original movie is as i have had it in every format! the songs are all superb! its my all time favourite musical! so not going down that road.I will tell you about the superb picture and sound that blu ray has to offer on this production "totally brilliant" for a couple of years i was in total denial of its quality until i had to buy a new tv , so when you get a full spec tv for half the price i had paid for my prior one i thought i would go out on a limb and get a blu ray player as they aint bad on price now,oh boy did i open a can of worms every film i buy now is blu ray over the last year but some films can still be grainy i was a little apprehensive of buying my fave musical on this format fearing the worse but gladly its stunning to watch the scenery is very spectacular the definition of colours is rich i cant fault it at all.hope this helps.

Great picture, weak sound.
The Blu-ray of Norman Jewison's brilliant film adaption of the Rice/Lloyd Webber masterpiece is worth getting for the picture quality which is a step up from the old DVD version (immediately evident by the removal of a scratch which blighted the opening panning shot). It looks very sharp indeed and Douglas Slocombe's stunning photography has never looked better. Sadly, the soundtrack is only improved slightly thanks to the uncompressed audio which the Blu-ray format affords. Otherwise it's still the same weak 2.0 mix as on the DVD, with the amazing musical arrangements often barely audible beneath the upfront vocals (the earlier numbers particularly suffer from this). Since the picture has been cleaned up, why has there been no attempt to improve the audio? If any film is screaming out for a powerful 5.1 surround mix it is this one. A really missed opportunity sadly, although still worth getting for being the best version currently available. Presumably we will have to wait for the 50th anniversary in 2023 to get the sound mix this classic film deserves.

The Best Thing That Ever Happened To An Amazing Movie!
There it is! For all those who have loved this movie for years, for all those who were very unhappy with the VHS-releases in 4:3 and saw their favorite movie being cut off on both sides of the screen, for all those who were happy with the DVD-release but didn't know better. Now there is a Blu-ray release and it's superb. Sharp images, vivid colors and a sound that is warm and clear. It's like looking through an open window and being part of the action. Don't forget this rock-opera was filmed in a desert in Israel in 1973!To keep it short: it can't get any better. This is the ultimate Jesus Christ Superstar.

Possibly the greatest and best interpretation of the Lloyd Webber/Rice musical - forget the stage shows, you have to see this. Using actors in a open air setting as opposed to film-lots and studios you get more a sense of reality than you normally would, and when one thinks about it, most of Jesus's ministry was outside. The actor, Ted Neely, makes a perfect Jesus, whilst the supporting cast are never without charm and character, especially Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdelane. I for one, could never be without this film in my collection.

As good as it gets
With over 70 reviews on Amazon, I guess you won't need me to tell you about the story of JCS!I have been waiting years from the 1973 Film version to come to Blu Ray. Without a doubt this is the best version, with some truly amazing vocal performances. So is it an a improvement over DVD, a simply answer is yes, colours are more natural, and everything is just that bit sharper. The downside, is the film grain, if you are expecting a modern High Quality transfer, you will be disappointed. Personally it reminds me of hearing hiss on a good HI-FI system from a analogue master tape, it was always there, but as the format improves, so do the floors of lesser standardsI have only given it 4 stars, as I'm sure this classic could have been cleaned up a bit, but as it stands, this is as good as it gets. It's the best of the many version JCS out there. My all time favourite musical, that has to be the greatest story told (And I'm not into any form of religion)

The best version of this amazing muscle. Highly recommend
I have loved this musical since I was a child and this, for me is the best production. All the cast are fabulous, especially the three leads. The location also stars and it's amazing cinematography. I also enjoyed the documentary. Highly recommend

Still a wonderful film .
I first saw this movie/musical what seems like 100 years ago when it was released to the cinema. The Bluray is one of excellent quality, pin sharp and great sound.Anyone buying this will know the plot and the music so I won't need to say too much, other than it is sharp , thoughtful and of top quality.

this is a piece of history; a classic which I had not seen for many years but remains as entertaining and uplifting as it ever was. If you have seen the stage show but not the film then you are in for treat. This media adds a whole lot more that keeps it alive.
