Not Manuka Pollen..But still tastes good
If like me you're a fan of honey generally then bee pollen is another tasty way to get some goodness from the bees!First impressions are pretty good, you get a tub of 150g of bee pollen, well sealed and smells like bee pollen should. There's no grit or debris floating around in it either.Bee pollen is a good thing to add to your breakfast cereal, and provides a high source of proteins, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. This gives a nice slightly crunchy texture with hints of sweet.I'm not a big fan of the fact they have called it Manuka, as this has a specific meaning on honey sourced from NZ Manuka flowers, and this pollen is sourced from EU and Non EU sources, so clearly is not, so this is perhaps a little misleading, although it does not make any further claims around it.Overall for £10 this is a little on the expensive side, given you can shop around and get 500g for five pounds more, and this isn't offering anything special over the others on the market, but its a nice pot and tastes good.

High quality bee pollen from a brand I already use
I am a massive fan of the Manuka Doctor brand, having been using their Manuka honey on a daily basis for well over 10 years now. I also use their skincare, but have never tried the bee pollen. I have been tempted in the past but never got around to trying it as I didn't really understand exactly what it was!Since I ordered this I have read up about it, so I was all ready to go when it arrived! It comes in a jar, and almost looks like golden coloured coffee granules! Once you open the jar, you have to consume the contents within 12 weeks, although that will not be a problem!Firstly I tasted just a few grains on their own (as bee pollen can give you an allergic reaction if you are allergic to bee stings). I have never been stung by a bee, so I am not sure, but I had no reaction at all, and in any case I use a lot of bee-derived products already. It is difficult to describe the taste. Somehow I was expecting it to taste of honey, but of course these are pollen grains and are not therefore related to honey. Its taste is not unpleasant - a bit earthy, and a bit like dried grass. I am not sure I would choose to eat a handful as a snack, but will use the grains sprinkled on my breakfast porridge and mixed in with my natural Greek yogurt most of the time - perhaps also sprinkled on salads.Having now read a lot about bee pollen, there is no doubt that these grains are a real superfood - rich in minerals, vitamins, proteins and amino acids, so I will be taking them daily over the winter months to give me a bit of a boost. As with my honey I will only buy from Manuka Doctor as they have a long history in New Zealand and are a reputable company.I am a firm believer in the health benefits of honey already, and I am sure that these little grains will now become a regular supplement for me. I am really pleased I got the opportunity to try them.
