Simplex Health Bacteria Water Test Kit
Excellent product at a very reasonable price. The test kit is easy to use but two things are worth considering prior to purchase; The test kit is based on a culture being developed over a period of time and the sample must be kept in a constant temperature environment of between 25 deg C and 35 deg C. The temperature dictates how long the culture needs to develop before the results are known. ( I kept my sample in a drying cupboard which is constantly at 30 deg C and took 36 hours before the results could be checked). The second test for E Coli requires a UV light source so if you don't have one you can purchase this from Amazon for under £10.All in all a very cheap and reliable test, if used exactly as per the instructions. Thankfully my water tested negative for both tests!

Do not trust!!!!
So I bought this product to check the quality of the water in my Berkey gravity filter. I had just washed and refilled it, as I regularly did over the past year, from my tap in London. Out of an abundance of caution, I wanted to check that my cleaning regime was adequate. I was confident it was indeed adequate but I needed reassurance after the year we've just been through. When I opened the test bottle and removed the seal I was met with a disgusting pong but put it down the necessary chemicals for the test. I filled it to the level instructed and put it in a warm place to develop over 48hours. I started to worry the next day when I checked and found the colour had started to change. My first thought was to buy another test but not from this company. I bought from another company and Amazon delivered the next day. By then this test kit had gone a very dark colour. There were 4 tests in the new kit so I testedthe filter water again before emptying the tank (I hadn't used it in 2 days),the tap water andthe water in my garden water butt for good measure. The water butt is fed from a shed roof which acts as a landing pad for a large variety of birds and their p**p.The fourth test I used to test the filter water after again thoroughly washing all the components. Two days later the tap water test and BOTH tests for the filtered water produced a NEGATIVE result. The water butt water as expected was very contaminated. This inadequate test was clearly wrong and had caused me an inordinate amount of distress and worry for my family. (Even though my 'gut' told me that the water was fine.) I would not trust this product again and I would not recommend it..

Good test kit but you need a UV light to check results for E-Coli!

This is not a one step method you need to spend more, it dosen't tell you in the add.
This is not a one step method! While instructions seem clear it is dose not mentioned anyware in the selling blurb that a uv light is nescersery to complet the test for E-coli and even then doesn't dicribe the level of fluorescents is positive. Just the light from any uv will reflect to a certain degree. Then it tells you that if further conformation is desired to add Kovac's Indole, sold separately and when you go to the Simplex site it's not found.

Does what it says on the bottle.
Does what it says on the bottle. Detected bacteria within 24 hours.Bottle contains some powder which you add your water to. Heat it to 25degC for 48 hours or 35degC for 24 hours to get the result. I put the sealed bottle in a larger container filled with water and used a fish tank heater to keep it warm.

Easy to read resuts
It would have been helpful to know that other chemicals are required for a total test of the sample.

False positive ended up costing me for more tests
My Reverse osmosis water tested positive using this test. The water went incredibly blue after about 40 hoursI contacted manufacturer and they said if the mains water tests positive that would be why.I had to purchase uv light and spend another £50 on tests with another brand. The other brand showed both mains tap water and Reverse osmosis as negative. Not to mention switching to drinking only bottled water for the week it took me to arrange another testThis test is inaccurate and gives false positives causing further expense and anxiety.
