Great product! Make sure to take the rubber off below the scale as it will not move with it on …. My students enjoy measuring using the weights and other objects. It is accurate.

My purchase was made after reading the majority of the reviews. I anticipate there will be some DIY in terms of mechanical adjustments after receiving this balance. The scale came packed nicely in a carton with high density styro foam moulded to fit and protect the scale for transit. It came with a single sheet of instructions. Unpacking was simple. After unboxing and inspecting the balance carefully, and as expected, it has a single flaw. The rider on the 0-10 grams beam literally clamped onto the beam with a slant. This rider was installed improperly and will not slide at all. With the right tools, I adjusted this rider so that it slides freely. Paint was chipped off the beam with the clamping which I repainted and re-polished. For the majority of potential purchasers, the imperfection of this rider might be a deal breaker. However, the price of this balance is nearly half that of the next lowest priced unit with similar listing photos. I am willing to try my DIY on this balance to make it work. I noted that the magnetic damper is working properly on my unit so it only takes a little time to settle. For the price (superb) and the minor DIY required (not so great), 1 star off. The bottom line is, if the potential buyer has the mechanical skills and tools to correct its possible minor flaws, this balance is a nice catch for the price. On the contrary, the non-DIYers might have to look at some other highly rated balance with a reputable brand name and a premium price tag. As for myself, I am satisfied with this balance's price, correctable flaw, and weighing precision. As it is a mechanical device, hurrah for no batteries ever needed.

Who doesn't want a 0-2.6kg scale that has 0.1g resolution that doesnt need power? I guess not that many people since so few reviews. Nice scale, finish is acceptable for the price.

It wasn't too complicated to zero the scale. It took under 5 minutes. And once you have it set up it's super simple to use. If you want to know EXACTLY how much something weighs it will take a little while for the scale to stop oscillating, but you can very quickly know if the item weighs more or less than a chosen weight. When you want to know within 3-5 gram the scale will oscillate for a few seconds before settling. The closer to exact weight you need the longer you will have to wait. I use my finger to slow the motion so it settles faster.

Package was delivered at my door upside down; fortunately the balance doesn't seem to have been damaged by that. I immediately notice that there are a few places where the black paint has chipped off - this is only cosmetic. The instructions mention two rubber "washers" that need to be removed, but mine only had a single foam collar holding the platform still (again, a superfluous detail). Here is the most important point: Instructions say to use it on a "flat" surface but it should say LEVEL surface, and to that end, there should be a little bubble level on the top of the pointer mast. It doesn't take much of a slope to tilt the entire balance to the point where the zero knob cannot be adjusted to compensate, which brings me to the second deficiency, which is the lack of an adjustable foot under the base of the pointer mast, so instead you end up having to put something under one end to bring it closer to level. Your other option is to adjust the smallest slider and remember that value to subtract from your final measurement. I have not yet determined whether it makes a difference as to how centered the measured object is on the platform. Nor have I tried some test weights to see how accurate the adjusters and counterweights are. I agree that the magnetic damping doesn't seem to work very quickly, and of course any effort you make to stop it from moving makes it move more :-D. I agree the smallest adjuster can be awkward to adjust (and looks cheap but that's cosmetic). Last but not least, it would be nice if there were a few more markings above and below the level line to give you an idea of how much to adjust the smallest adjuster.
