Great Introduction to a Vegetarian Diet
My wife and I decided to start eating a mostly vegetarian diet. We already owned a couple vegetarian cookbooks, but sometimes the recipes were not filling, or comforting. This cookbook definitely has satisfying recipes. It also helps you branch out beyond strictly vegetables and tofu, it contains recipes with protein substitutes like veggie crumbles (ground beef substitute), tempeh, and seitan. Many of the recipes are familiar to most people that grew up eating meat, with slight modifications to make them vegetarian. We loved the soy scrapple, which is great with maple syrup for breakfast. We also really enjoyed the shepherd's pie. Not all of the recipes are hits, but that is a personal opinion. Some of the recipes can be time consuming, and labor intensive, which is disappointing when it doesn't turn out well, but well worth the effort when you make an outstanding dish. It has a home-made seitan recipe, which is great, but after making it I would recommend just buying vital wheat gluten and making your life easier.

Great ideas for cooking vegetarian
I decided to start eating mostly vegetarian to improve my health and feel better. Even though I love to cook and consider myself a pretty experienced "home chef", I felt like I needed a little help coming up with ideas for vegetarian main dishes beyond salads. While this cookbook would not be considered haute cuisine by any stretch it DOES contain lots of recipes that mimic real comfort-type dishes. I'm only just beginning to cook from it, but I can already tell you that I don't miss the meat. Not at all. The dishes are filling enough that I don't feel deprived which was how I was expecting to feel after deciding to forgo meat. For lunch today I had black beans, garlic and a roasted yellow pepper on a fried polenta square with a little cilantro sprinkled on top. Awesome! The ingredients are really accessible and the explanations are helpful as well. There are no photos, but they're not necessary in my opinion as most of the dishes are pretty simple and straightforward. Highly recommended for someone thinking of making the crossover to vegetarianism. Especially if the rest of their family still expects meat dishes for dinner.

One Of My New Favorite Cook Books!
I love this cookbook! I enjoyed reading the author's commentary and I have tried many recipes from this book and they've all turned out fantastically. These recipes really are "comfort food" that satisfy the soul. One negative reviewer complained about the amount of "wheat meat" and soy products used in the recipes, and there are quite a few recipes that use them. But the cookbook is HUGE - there are *tons* of other recipes that don't use those products [I've made a bunch of recipes from this book and haven't used "wheat meat" or "tofu" even once!]. So, if those things aren't your cup of tea, you can find plenty here to satisfy you regardless! There was also a complaint about not having pictures of the food in the book, and that is true. However, the instructions given are very detailed and easy to follow, so I did not find photos of the food necessary. This is a new favorite cookbook of mine. It has earned a place of honor on the bookshelf with my other beloved tried and true cookbooks that I use constantly. I am so glad I bought this book!

Very Good Vegan Cookbook
Hmmmmm......I would describe this cookbook as one that is very elegant and tasteful. It is full of thoroughly put together recipes. Think of it as food with a touch of class. I have stickies all through this book and use it on a regular basis. I highly recommend this book to all vegan and non vegan chefs. Try it you'll like it!!!

WOW what a book.
I did not grow up a vegitarian. I grew up enjoying My mother's hearty meals. I have been a vegitarian now for 18 years and have longed for one of those hearty meals. Over the years my wife and I have found resturants on our travels that offered hearty meals but we could never get copies of the recipes. On a recent visit to my brothers he and his wife recommended this book. The first recipe I prepared was a pot pie and was it good! My wife is waiting for me to make another one. We both enjoy researching the recipes and making them. But, we enjoy eating them even more! If you like cooking, but don't like bad surprises then get this book. We have never found a bad recipe.

OK Recipes, No Pictures
There are a few good recipes in this book, but many seemed to be variations using the same ingredients. The cover was misleading to me. I thought that the cookbook would have photographs accompanying each of the finished recipes, but there wasn't a single photo in the entire book. Instead of photos, there are only simple drawings of unrelated fruit, vegetables or kitchen implements on each page. I'm not a good cook, so I need a picture to guide me as to how the finished dish should look.I wouldn't purchase it again.

Robin is the best. All her recipes are delicious and different
Robin is the best. All her recipes are delicious and different. I have at least 5 of her books and each one different. You can always count on a recipe from Robin to receive rave reviews.

Good tasty meals
I love a vegetarian option once in a while for a healthier meal, but I'm not always so hot on everything tofu based. This recipe book is great because it combines tofu meals with vegetable meals, so you can really find something to your liking.

excellent cookbook
this is a wonderful cookbook for the veggie wannabe. loads of wonderful recipes that include "meatlike" alternatives.i have found that you can easily incorporate tvp into many of the recipes, especially if you are a little hesitant about seitan
