I bought this book for my husband's birthday, he's becoming Catholic YAY!This prayer book is very well made, you can see that a lot of thought went into its design. The imitation leather is well done, so that you can't really tell if it's plastic or not, unless you inspect it very carefully. And the covers are very sturdy, with rounded edges (same with the pages) that should hold up to normal wear-and-tear for years. The paper used for the pages is sturdy and of good quality, not cheap thin paper. And each section has a colored heading that helps to divide up the prayers and devotions. There is a good table of contents as well. The language is straight forward, not too modern and not too old fashioned. I love the poetic sound of the Douay-Rheims bible and the old prayers but some days I am just so overwhelmed and busy that it is helpful to have a prayer book in modern English.Overall this is a great book for the price! So much so that I've purchased a few more of the titles in this series.

Wording not like what Catholics actually use so I didn't necessary learn what they actually do
This book was ok except even as a newbie I noticed what he claimed were the common prayers Catholics use were not worded quite as they use them. I don't know if it's what American Catholics say, or what. For instance throughhout the Hail Mary he said 'blessed art you' rather than 'blessed art thou' like all Catholics, at least in the UK. In the Glory Be he says 'Glory to' rather than 'Glory be to' so it doesn't even match with the normal title of the prayer. And these are just the ones I noticed as someone new. So, what he writes can't be relied upon. Looking at it a few months later= even the Creed, he gets 'wrong!'

That any cared or candidate going through the RCIA process can use it.
Gave it to our catechumen coming into the Church. He knows some of the prayers and if he has them he will use it.

Great beginner's Catholic Prayer Book.
Dear Reader,I have given this book a five star rating because having purchased it and reviewed it, I found it worthy of such a rating. This is what it is, a prayer book for beginners. When I say beginners I don't mean that it is only for those who have never prayed. There are all different kinds of prayer. I the Catholic Church we have not only a tradition of spontaneous prayers from the heart, but written prayers that should be known to all Catholics. Some have argued that they didn't like the Scripture translations used in the book; it was not my favorite but it was not a false translation either. Another objected to this book as being promoted as "traditional", when for example the inclusion of the Mysteries of Light are shown in how to pray the rosary. These were added to the rosary by St. PP John Paul II. Since he was the Pope, he had the Authority by Christ to add to the Traditions of the Church; the Rosary while being Marian prayer which asks the intercessions of the Mother Of God, is truly a Gospel Meditation, and the St. John Paul II's supplied even more mysteries regarding the life of Christ for one to meditate upon.So impressed was I with this simple yet profound prayer book that I purchased three; one each for my two sons, and one for a best friend who was poorly Catechized in the Faith.
