The base plate is more compact than I interpreted, but that is actually nice. For something that keeps it's own space on my desk, it is nice that it isn't occupy a large area when unused. When being use it is 'just right' for 2-hand 3-D space. The clips are held down with darn-strong magnets. They don't move when down, but they can also be repositioned to anywhere else. That is nice when you need it, to the point that you won't find this feature elsewhere and you'll miss it if you're without it. Clips have (Flat) plastic tips, not the heatshrink cop-out tips that 98% of Clips have. The plastic tips on these are flat, and now if I ever get another helping hands without flat tips, I'll need to Amazon a bag of flat tips too. I can use one clip to hold a medium pocket knife to work on it, and have 3 more as backup. That is strong enough for most things, I imagine. Light has different colors and is bright enough for general duty. Brightest setting won't blind you.

This is a great tool when soldering small components, the integrated light really lights up the work area, the magnifying glass provide plenty of magnification to install and remove surface mounting devices out of small RC brushless motors sensor boards, lastly the helping hands adjustability is decent, helping hands are ok not that great not terrible they are usable but take a little back and forth to get somewhat the right angle. I used this tool to remove brushless motor sensors, and it allows me to do a job otherwise with my current vision situation very difficult.

The magnifier works well, the base is sturdy, and the clamps mostly stay put. I say mostly because they suffer from the same problem that everything using those types of spring arms have - they won't stay put. So if you're trying to do something that requires precision, you're going to end up frustrated. But if you just want to hold something up, it should work fine..
